Victoria Hotspurs bounce back with derby win

Champions Victoria Hotspurs returned to winning ways in the BOV Gozo Football League First Division as they defeated neighbours SK Victoria Wanderers on Sunday.

The Wanderers therefore remain second from bottom, four points ahead of Oratory Youths.

Emiliano Lattes put the Hotspurs ahead on the 11th minute and although Aaron Touarha equalised a minute later, Chris Camilleri restored the lead on the 34th and a brace by Galder Dwomoh Lombas on the 47th and 69th sealed the issue.

Oratory Youths lost 1-3 to Ghajnsielem on Saturday. Goals by Luis Andre De Melo Lima on the 16th, Marco Antonio Morgon Filho on the 33rd and Kenneth Mercieca four minutes later gave the Blacks a three-goal lead by half-time. Aleandro Bezzina pulled one back on the 66th minute.

In another match on Saturday, Kercem Ajax and Gharb Rangers shared the spoils in a goalless draw. A result which ensured both sides will play in the top division next season.

On Sunday, Xewkija Tigers defeated rivals Nadur Youngsters 3-2. The Tigers took a two-goal lead thanks to Halleson Thiago Barbosa Honorato on the 21st and Gennaro Hili on the 32nd. Stanimir Miloskovic pulled one back on the 34th but Milos Stojanovic made it 3-1 on the 67th. Stanimir Miloskovic missed a penalty, hitting wide on the 78th but Brandon Said reduced the gap with a goal one minute from time.

Meanwhile in the BOV Gozo Football League Second Division, Sannat Lions defeated Xaghra United 5-1 at the Kercem Ajax Stadium thanks to a brace by Oliver Farrugia 10 and 79) and Antoine Camilleri (18, 37 and 90 pen). Adrian Xiberras scored a consolation goal on the 67th.

In another match, Zebbug Rovers defeated Qala Saints 2-1. An own goal after just three minutes put Zebbug ahead and although Michael Mumford equalised on the 24th, Chris Borg restored the lead four minutes from the end of the first half.
