Trip to Torshavn ahead of UEFA Nations League qualifier delayed

Preparations for the opening UEFA Nations League D3 clash against the Faroe Islands were partly disrupted after the chartered flight which was due to take the Maltese contingent to Torshavn on Tuesday morning was first delayed and then re-scheduled for Wednesday.

Following a two-hour delay, a technical problem in the aircraft prompted the captain to head back to the Malta International Airport a few minutes after take-off and efforts by the flight operators to reschedule the chartered flight to a later time on Tuesday, using another aircraft, proved futile due to logistical issues, which were obviously beyond the Malta Football Association’s control.

The necessary arrangements have been made for the players and technical staff to check into the Corinthia Hotel ahead of the rescheduled departure to Torshavn on Wednesday morning.

The team was due to have two training sessions in Torshavn on Tuesday afternoon and Wednesday morning. Training sessions are now scheduled on Wednesday afternoon and Thursday afternoon.

Faroe Islands vs Malta will be played on Friday at the Torsvallur Stadium in Torshavn, kick-off 20:45 CET. Malta will then host Azerbaijan at the National Stadium on Monday, also at 20:45.
