Third consecutive win for Balzan

Balzan moved temporarily on top the BOV Premier League table as they registered a third consecutive win, defeating Mosta 3-1 at the Victor Tedesco Stadium on Friday.

For Mosta, this was the second defeat in four matches, having won against Senglea Athletic and Tarxien Rainbows in their last two games.

Steve Sultana and Uros Ljubomirac were back in the starting line-up for Balzan, replacing Sean Mintoff and Dale Camilleri from the team which defeated Senglea last week. On the other hand, for Mosta, Dexter Xuereb replaced James Brincat.

Alex da Paixao Alves put Balzan ahead on the 13th minute when he concluded a good run on the right flank with a powerful drive which saw the ball hit the bar before ending beyond the goal line.

Three minutes later, Tyrone Farrugia equalised for Mosta with a powerful shot from inside the area.

Balzan regained the lead on the 35th minute when Andrija Majdevac received a through pass and advanced on the right before serving the unmarked Alex da Paixao Alves who placed the ball at the back of the net.

Five minutes in the second half, Uros Ljubomirac sealed the issue with a third goal, hitting home off a corner by Milos Lepovic.
