BOV Division 1: Mqabba, Lija and Pembroke join Sirens in second place

Mqabba, Lija Athletic and Pembroke Athletic registered their first wins on Wednesday in the BOV First Division to join Sirens in second place on five points, two behind leaders Santa Lucia.

At the Victor Tedesco Stadium, Mqabba defeated Marsa 3-1. Wayne Borg opened the scoring on the 23rd and Larson Mallia doubled the score on the 74th. Aaron Agius converted a penalty ten minutes from time to pull one back for Marsa but Larson Mallia converted another penalty in added time to seal the issue for Clive Mizzi’s side.

Koken Kuroki scored twice for Lija Athletic – on the 7th and on the 40th – as they defeated San Gwann 2-1 in another match at the Victor Tedesco Stadium. Jean Paul Attard scored a consolation goal for San Gwann on the 70th.

A goal by Aaron Hili on the 4th minute gave Pembroke Athleta a narrow win over neighbours Swieqi United at the Centenary Stadium.

In another match at the Centenary Stadium, Gudja United and Vittoriosa Stars both earned their third point in a third draw as they shared the spoils in a 1-1 draw, goals by Adolphus Marshall Nagbe on the 28th for Gudja and Joseph Jojo Ogunnupe for Vittoriosa on the 45th

Santa Lucia lead the way with 7 points, followed by Mqabba, Lija, Pembroke and Sirens on 5, Swieqi 4, Zejtun, Gudja, Naxxar, Vittoriosa and Marsa 3, Qrendi and Zebbug 2 and San Gwann 0.
