Floriana return to winning ways

Floriana returned to winning ways as they defeated Qormi 3-1 at the National Stadium on Friday.

This was the second win in five matches for the Greens while for Qormi, this was the third defeat in five matches.

Floriana had Slovenian defender Ivica Guberac making his debut. Guberac and Patrick Wleh were named in the starting line-up as they replaced Arthur Oyama and the suspended Alex Cini. Qormi, on the other hand, made wholesale changes as Alan Abela, Luke Busuttil and Iven Zammit made way for Seo In Kim, Mario Andres Arrieta and Lubos Adamec.

Juninho Cabral put the Greens ahead after just three minutes thanks to a direct freekick.

Floriana doubled the score on the 27th minute when they were awarded a penalty after a defender handled the ball inside the area Clayton Failla converted from the penalty spot.

Qormi reduced the gap through Yannick Yankam who headed the ball home off a cross by Alessio Cassar six minutes in the second half.

However substitute Clyde Borg restored the two-goal lead for Floriana two minutes from time with a powerful shot when served by another substitute, Daniel Agius.
