Late goals put Hibernians back on track

Hibernians scored twice in the dying minutes as they returned to winning ways, defeating St. Andrews 2-0 at the Victor Tedesco Stadium on Friday. 

For the team led by Stefano Sanderra, who was however unable to sit on the bench as he served a one-match ban, this was the third win in five matches. St. Andrews, on the other hand, suffered a fourth consecutive defeat.

The Paolites had two changes from the team which lost to Gzira as Johann Bezzina and Ivan Blazevic were replaced by Dunstan Vella and Taylon Correa.

St. Andrews had Joseph Farrugia and Amoy Brown back in the starting line-up, replacing Matthew Woo Ling and Kevyn Mcfarlane.

On the 11th minute, Hibernians had an excellent opportunity to take the lead with a shot by Jurgen Degabriele, Taylon Correa failed to connect from close range and Tiago Adan Fonseca hit the foot of the upright. Tiago Adan Fonseca went close with a diagonal shot from the left which scraped past the post six minutes from the end of the first half. 

In the second half, there was hardly any shot at goal. 

However two minutes from time, the Paolites forged ahead when off a cross by substitute Guttiner Heider Costa Tenorio, Taylon Nicolas Correa Marcolino’s acrobatic 

One minute in added time, Jurgen Degabriele doubled the score when he received an assist on the left, rounded the goalkeeper and placed the ball inside the empty net.
