Valletta, Balzan cross swords in match-of-the-week

Champions Valletta and Balzan cross swords in the big match from the BOV Premier League this weekend, at the National Stadium on Friday, kick-off at 19:00.

The Citizens lost their first two matches to Sliema and Hibernians but bounced back with three comfortable wins over Birkirkara, Qormi and Senglea, scoring fourteen goals in the process and conceding just one. Balzan also lost their first game to Birkirkara but then registered wins over Qormi, Senglea, Mosta and Pietà. Balzan share second place with Sliema on 12 points, three ahead of Valletta.

Milos Lepovic returns for Balzan after serving a one-match ban.

At the Victor Tedesco Stadium, kick-off at 18:00, Pietà Hotspurs take on Mosta. The Hotspurs are second from bottom after collecting just two points in draws with Qormi and Senglea but were quite unlucky to lose narrowly to Hibs, Birkirkara and Balzan. Mosta, on the other hand, are currently eighth on seven points thanks to wins over Senglea and Tarxien and a goalless draw with Hamrun in their last outing.

At 20:15, Hamrun Spartans host Sliema Wanderers at the Victor Tedesco Stadium. The Spartans lost ground in their last outings following a 1-2 defeat to Tarxien and a goalless draw with Mosta. On the other hand, the Wanderers are currently second on 12 points, dropping their only points in a defeat to Gzira. In their last outing, Sliema beat Tarxien 3-1.

Hamrun Spartans goalkeeper Manuel Bartolo and Sliema Wanderers midfielder Ryan Fenech are ruled out through suspension.
