Martin Davis brace sinks Stripes

Martin Davis scored twice for St. Andrews as they defeated Birkirkara 2-0 at the Victor Tedesco Stadium on Saturday.

The Stripes therefore suffered a third defeat in four matches while for St. Andrews, this was the first win after four consecutive defeats.

Birkirkara had no changes from the team which lost to Gzira while St. Andrews had Kevyn Mcfarlane starting ahead of Kurt Magro.

Four minutes in the second half, Danilo Chapoval hit the crossbar with a header for Birkirkara.

Seven minutes later, St. Andrews took the lead as Martin Davis concluded a solo effort with a low shot which beat Naumovski.

Danilo Chapoval was unlucky not to equalise for Birkirkara, hitting the crossbar with a shot from the edge of the goal area on the 90th minute.

Then two minutes in added time, St. Andrews sealed the issue with a second goal. A Kemar Reid effort was blocked by Cain Attard and Martin Davis took the rebound to slot the ball past the Birkirkara custodian.
