Second win in a row for St. Andrews

After beating Birkirkara in their previous outing, St. Andrews continued where they had left with another 2-0 win, this time against Qormi at the Centenary Stadium on Friday. A win which put the Saints in a more comfortable mid-table position.

This was in fact the third win for St. Andrews while for Qormi, this fifth defeat in seven matches leaves them second from bottom.

Qormi had three changes from the team which lost narrowly to Gzira as Alexsandro Ferreira, Iven Zammit and Luke Busuttil replaced Lubos Adamec, Tensior Gusman and Alan Abela. Gusman and Gaetano Gesualdi were both suspended for Qormi. St. Andrews, on the other hand, had Kurt Magro and Kemmu Degran Jackson were named in the starting line-up while there was no place for Ricardo Martin and Kemar Reid.

The Saints took the lead on the 23rd minute when off a Joseph Farrugia freekick, Adrian Borg hit home past goalkeeper Jamie Azzopardi.

Five minutes from time, St. Andrews doubled the score when they were awarded a penalty after Aidan Friggieri was brought down inside the area by goalkeeper Jamie Azzopardi and from the penalty spot, Kevaughn Atkinson made no mistake.
