Valletta target fifth consecutive win

Champions Valletta will be all out to claim a fifth consecutive win on Saturday as they take on Pietà Hotspurs at the Centenary Stadium, kick-off at 15:00, in one of the two BOV Premier League matches in programme.

The Citizens won their last four matches, defeating Birkirkara, Qormi, Senglea and Balzan, scoring eighteen and conceding just two goals. They currently share third place with Balzan and Hibernians, lying one point behind Sliema Wanderers and seven behind leaders Gzira United.

The Hotspurs, on the other hand, are third from bottom on five points but registered their first win in their last outing, beating Mosta 3-1.

Meanwhile in the second match, kick-off at 17:15, Birkirkara take on Tarxien Rainbows. Three defeats from the last four matches leave the Stripes in joint-sixth place on nine points along with Floriana, Hamrun Spartans and St. Andrews. The 0-2 defeat to St. Andrews before the international break was definitely unexpected and they are now eager to bounce back in this clash with Tarxien.

The Rainbows also lost three out of the last four matches and are coming from a 1-4 defeat to neighbours Hibernians. Lying fourth from bottom, Tarxien are desperate for points in order to climb out of the danger zone.

Tarxien’s Michele Paolucci is ruled out through suspension.
