Wanderers turn defeat into victory

Sliema Wanderers came from behind to beat Mosta 2-1 at the Centenary Stadium on Sunday to move back in second place in the BOV Premier League.

Following the defeat to Pieta, Mosta had three changes as Dexter Xuereb, Renan Abner de Oliveira and Francesco Mazzavillani replaced Steve Bonnici, Mattia Vicaroni and Falou Ndiaye Samb. Mosta had a perfect start, taking the lead on the 4th minute when Juri Cisotti concluded a good move on the right flank with an assist for Renan Oliveira who tapped the ball home from close range.

Sliema equalised on the 12th minute. Jefferson de Assis served Mark Scerri and with a diagonal shot from the right, the Sliema captain beat goalkeeper Andreas Vella.

The Wanderers went 2-1 ahead in the 69th minute when they were awarded a penalty after Claudio Pani was brought down inside the area and Jefferson de Assis made no mistake from the penalty spot.

Ten minutes from time, Sliema were awarded another penalty after Farrugia handled the ball inside the area but this time Jefferson de Assis hit high.

Frank Temile could have sealed the issue with another goal on the 89th minute but he was unlucky to hit the upright and denied by goalkeeper Andreas Vella twice following a cross from the left by Jefferson de Assis.
