Balzan test for leaders Gzira United

Leaders Gzira United will be hoping to extend their positive run on top the BOV Premier League table as they take Balzan at the Centenary Stadium on Saturday, kick-off at 17:15.

The Maroons dropped just two points in the first seven matches in a draw with Hamrun, winning the other six matches, including last week’s narrow win over Senglea Athletic. Balzan, on the other hand, are joint-third on 15 points with Valletta and Hibernians, four points behind the leaders.  In their last outing, they defeated Floriana 2-0.

Gzira captain Andrew Cohen is ruled out through suspension.

In the first match at the Centenary Stadium, kick-off at 15:00, Tarxien Rainbows and Qormi cross swords in a direct clash between two teams desperate for points.

Tarxien are currently fourth from bottom on six points, losing their last three matches to Sliema, Hibernians and Birkirkara. Qormi, on the other hand, collected four points so far but suffered four consecutive defeats in the last four matches to Valletta, Floriana, Gzira and St. Andrews.

Tensior Gusman is suspended for Qormi but Gaetano Gesualdi will be back and new signing Nedo Turkovic could make his debut. Tarxien, on the other hand, welcome back Michele Paolucci.

At the Victor Tedesco Stadium, kick-off at 15:00, Floriana will be hoping to return to winning ways as they take on Pietà Hotspurs.

After losing to Balzan 2-0 on Monday, the Greens will be hoping to take home the three points in order to join Hamrun and Birkirkara on the 12-point mark. The Hotspurs are coming from a 0-4 defeat to Valletta and are currently third from bottom on five points.

In the second match at the Victor Tedesco Stadium, kick-off at 17:15, Valletta will be aiming for a sixth consecutive win as they take on Mosta.

After a poor start, the Citizens won the next five games, scoring twenty two in the process and conceding just two. Last week they defeated Pietà 4-0. Mosta, on the other hand, lost three out of the last four matches and are currently tenth. They are coming from a 1-2 defeat to Sliema.

Joseph Zerafa is ruled out for Valletta as he serves a one-match ban.
