Three teams reach FA Trophy third round

Vittoriosa Stars, Gudja United and Mellieha were the first teams to reach the second round of the FA Trophy as the first round will be played between Friday and Sunday.

At the Luxol Stadium, First Division side Vittoriosa Stars needed extra-time to defeat Third Division side Kirkop United 2-1. Arsene Rye Cilia Mumford put Vittoriosa ahead five minutes in the second half but Karl Caruana converted a penalty on the 90th to level matters. Eight minutes in the first half of extra-time, Marcelo de Souza Dias notched the winner for Vittoriosa.

At the Victor Tedesco Stadium, Mellieha defeated Kalkara 2-0 in a clash between two Second Division sides. Wayne Chetcuti put Mellieha ahead on the 59th and two minutes in added time, David Fenech doubled the score.

In another match at the Victor Tedesco Stadium, Gudja United defeated Sirens 2-1 at the Victor Tedesco Stadium in a clash between two teams from the BOV First Division.  Luke Mijic put Sirens ahead early in the second half but an own goal restored equilibrium. Raphael Kooh Sohna notched the winner late in the game.
