Senglea Athletic register first win

With a goal in each half, Senglea Athletic defeated St. Andrews 2-1 at the Centenary Stadium to register their first win in the BOV Premier League.

Senglea therefore join Qormi on the four-point mark after they had collected just one point from the previous seven matches in a draw with Pietà For the Saints, on the other hand, this was a most disappointing result after collecting maximum points from their previous two matches against Birkirkara and Qormi.

St. Andrews had four changes as Alex Satariano, Kurt Magro and Kemmu Degran Jackson were replaced by Ricardo Martin, Karl Pulo and Jacob Walker. Senglea, on the other hand, had two changes as Marko Ivanovic and Leighton Grech replaced Kieran Xuereb and the suspended Federico Salvati.

Leighton Grech was unlucky to have a goal bound header blocked on the goal line by Travis Blagrove following a cross from the right on the 44th. However less than a minute later, Ricardo Martin brought Leighton Grech down inside the area; referee Matthew De Gabriele ordered a penalty and from the penalty spot, Romani Tchanturia made no mistake from the penalty spot.

On the hour, Senglea doubled the score thanks to an angled shot by Braian Volpini from the left which beat Calleja Cremona.

Ten minutes from time, Augusto Rene Caseres was sent off for Senglea for a dangerous foul on an opponent.

One minute in added time, Adrian Borg scored a consolation goal for St. Andrews as he headed the ball home from close range off a Joseph Farrugia free kick from the right.
