Gzira United hope to extend winning streak

Leaders Gzira United will be aiming for a seventh consecutive win on Saturday as they take on Pietà Hotspurs while Hibernians hope to keep the pace with the leaders in two of the BOV Premier League matches in programme on Saturday at the Victor Tedesco Stadium (and not the Hibernians Stadium as originally scheduled) and the Centenary Stadium.

In the first match at the Centenary Stadium, kick-off at 14:00, Senglea Athletic will be aiming for a second positive result in a row as they take on Tarxien Rainbows.

The win over St. Andrews was the first win after losing six out of the seven matches played earlier. They now share the bottom spot with Qormi.

On the other hand, last week’s narrow win over Qormi enabled Tarxien to join Floriana and St. Andrews on the nine-point mark.

Senglea will be without the suspended Brandon Muscat and Augusto Rene Caseres.

In the second match at the Centenary Stadium, kick-off at 16:15, Mosta face Hibernians.

The Paolites aim for a fifth consecutive win after defeating St. Andrews, Tarxien, Hamrun and Sliema in their last four matches.

Mosta, on the other hand, hope to end a disappointing run which saw them lose four out of the last five matches, collecting just one point in a draw with Hamrun. Last week, they lost 0-5 to Valletta and are currently third from bottom on seven points.

Meanwhile Pietà Hotspurs take on leaders Gzira United in the first match at the Victor Tedesco Stadium, kick-off at 14:00.

The Maroons lie four points ahead of Valletta and Hibernians and cannot afford dropping any points as they aim at maintaining a comfortable lead on top.

However the Hotspurs’ morale is sky-high following a 2-1 win over Floriana last week. This was the second win in three matches and now lie fourth from bottom.

Andrew Cohen returns for Gzira after his three-match ban was reduced to just one following an appeal.

In the second match at the Victor Tedesco Stadium, kick-off at 16:15, Balzan take on St. Andrews.

Balzan hope to bounce back from the 0-3 defeat to Gzira which was their second defeat in three matches and now share fifth place with Birkirkara, seven points behind the leaders.

The Saints are also eager to impress following a most disappointing 1-2 defeat to Senglea Athletic in their last outing. This was the fifth defeat in eight matches and they share the eighth place with Floriana and Tarxien.

Nevada Sljivic is ruled out for Balzan as he serves a one-match ban.
