Comfortable wins for Victoria Hotspurs, Nadur Youngsters in GFA Cup

The BOV GFA Cup took centre stage at the Kercem Ajax Stadium during the weekend with six matches from the Preliminary Round.

Champions Victoria Hotspurs hit six past Xaghra United. Michael Bezzina opened the score on the 11th minute and Elton da Silva doubled the score four minutes later. One minute in the second half, Elton da Silva made it 3-0 and Stanimir Miloskovic increased the lead four minutes later. Emiliano Lattes scored a fifth goal on the 62nd with Elton da Silva adding another seven minutes from time.

Nadur Youngsters defeated Oratory Youths 6-0 on Friday. Daniel Mateo Bustos put Nadur ahead on the 12th minute and five minutes later, Jordi Parnis doubled the score. Yuri de Jesus Messias made it 3-0 on the 37th. Nadur added another three goals in the final ten minutes thanks to Joseph Owen Borg on the 81st, Yuri de Jesus Messias on the 82nd and Marcelo Junior Barbosa on the 85th.

SK Victoria Wanderers defeated Gharb Rangers 3-0 in a clash between two First Division sides on Sunday. Gabriel Cardona put the Wanderers ahead on the 18th and just before the end of the first half, Aud-Gustine James Obaje doubled the score. Sam Harland sealed the issue with a third goal nine minutes from time.

Kercem Ajax defeated Ghajnsielem 4-2 after extra-time in another clash between two First Division sides on Sunday. Kenneth Mercieca gave Ghajnsielem the lead on the 33rd but before the end of the first half, Neto Pedro Mecadante Leite do Canto equalised. With the score still 1-1 at the end of the ninety minutes, the game went into extra-time. Nathaniel Mercieca put Kercem ahead on the 98th and goals by Felipe Augusto de Oliveira on the 106th and Pedro on the 114th. Two minutes from time, Luis Andre De Melo Lima reduced the gap for Ghajnsielem.

Goals by Steve Dimech on the 6th minute and Joseph Grima on the 71st gave Munxar Falcons a 2-0 win over St. Lawrence Spurs on Saturday. 

In another match on Friday, Qala Saints defeated Zebbug Rovers 3-2. A goal by Michael Mumford on the 6th and a Samuel Sillato penalty on the 34th put Qala two goals ahead. Luke Meilak reduced the gap on the 42nd but Oliver Farrugia made it 3-1 on the 56th. Marcos Peres Vega reduced the gap for the Rovers on the hour. 

In the quarter-finals, Xewkija Tigers take on Qala Saints, Sannat Lions face Nadur, Kercem Ajax meet Victoria Hotspurs and Munxar Falcons face SK Victoria Wanderers
