Futsal: Great comeback by Valletta in clash with rivals Luxol

The big match between leaders Luxol and champions Valletta turned out to be a thrilling encounter in front of a sizeable crowd at the Corradino Sport Pavilion on Thursday.

Luxol went three goals ahead within the first four minutes thanks to a brace by Brazilian Maicon Silva Gaiewski and a goal by George Frendo. Valletta failed to throw the towel and reduce the gap through captain Melvin Borg. In the final four minutes of the first half, Melvin Borg scored once again and Dylan Musu levelled matters.

During the second half, both teams had a player sent off. First was Valletta’s goalkeeper Stefan Vella and then it was the turn of Luxol’s George Frendo. After an good move by Colombian Camilo Andres Gomez Vanegas, it was Valletta captain Melvin Borg to mark his hat-trick with the winning goal. The posts denied Luxol twice, including an effort in the final second of the match.

Valletta join Luxol on top together with Swieqi United who defeated UM Futsal Academy 19-1. Birkirkara Futsal move three points behind thanks to a 3-2 win over Tarxien Rainbows. University of Malta Students defeated Pietà Hotspurs 8-4. Luxol Under-19 beat Swieqi Under-21 7-5. In another match, Swieqi United defeated their Under-21 side 8-1
