Johann Bezzina joins Birkirkara on a five-year deal

Birkirkara secured the services of twenty-four year old midfielder Johann Bezzina from Hibernians. Bezzina signed a five-year deal with the Stripes.

Ironically Bezzina had started his career with the Birkirkara nursery but moved to the Paola Hibernians nursery at the age of twelve. Since then he has always played for Hibernians, except for a loan spell with Sliema Wanderers in season 2015/16. He made his Premier League debut in season 2010/11 at the age of sixteen.

Throughout his career, he won two Permier League championships with the Paolites, two FA Trophies with Hibernians and another with Sliema Wanderers and a Super Cup with Hibernians.

Johann Bezzina, who played for the national teams at Under-19 and Under-21 levels, made his senior national team debut in June 2017 in a friendly match against Ukraine.

The Stripes have so far signed Clayton Failla, Muamer Svraka and Jorge Pereira da Silva, released Uchenna Calistus Umeh, transferred Paul Fenech to Balzan and loaned Llywelyn Cremona and Brandon Muscat to Gudja United and Zebbug Rangers respectively.
