BOV Division 1: Sirens make it five wins in a row

Leaders Sirens move six points clear in the BOV First Division thanks to a narrow win over Vittoriosa Stars at the Centenary Stadium on Friday.

Luka Mijic scored the all-important goal on the 69th minute.

At the Victor Tedesco Stadium, Zejtun Corinthians continued their recovery with a 4-1 win over Lija Athletic. Zejtun opened the score thanks to an own goal one minute from the end of the first half. Koken Kuroki equalised on the 61st but four minutes later, Rafael de Fex Mariaga restored the lead for the Corinthians who sealed the issue with a brace by Johan Castano on the 77th and 92nd.

After failing to win any out of the last seven matches, Pembroke Athleta bounced back with a 2-0 win over Mqabba at the Victor Tedesco Stadium thanks to goals by Jean Pierre Mifsud Triganza on the 38th and Wilmsen Moacir da Rosa on the 73rd.

In another match, a goal by Josuel Spiteri on the hour handed Qrendi a narrow win over Zebbug Rangers at the Centenary Stadium.

Sirens lead the way with 27 points, followed by Santa Lucia on 21, Lija 19, Swieqi, Qrendi and Gudja 17, Pembroke 15, Zejtun, Naxxar, Vittoriosa and Zebbug, Mqabba 13, San Gwann 9 and Marsa 5.
