BOV Division 1: Santa Lucia hit seven past Marsa

After being held in four consecutive draws, Santa Lucia bounced back in style with a most comfortable 7-1 win over wooden-spoonists Marsa in one of the three matches from the BOV First Division at the Centenary Stadium on Saturday. A win which puts them three points behind leaders Sirens.

Lee Galea put them ahead on the 26th minute and six minutes later, they doubled the score thanks to an own goal. Santa Lucia were already sure of the three points by half-time as Jurgen Suda made it 3-0 on the 35th and Nick Borg 4-0 two minutes from the end of the first half. Three minutes in the second half, Jurgen Suda scored a fifth goal and Nick Borg added another a minute later. Ali Sreti pulled one back for Marsa as he converted a penalty but Jurgen Suda made it 7-1 on the 79th minute.

Meanwhile a goal two minutes in added time by Jurgen Debono gave Naxxar Lions a narrow win over Swieqi United while an own goal on the 23rd minute gave Gudja United the three points in a clash with San Gwann.

Sirens lead the way with 27 points, followed by Santa Lucia on 24, Gudja 20, Lija 19, Qrendi, Swieqi and Naxxar 17, Pembroke 15, Zejtun, Vittoriosa and Zebbug 14, Mqabba 13, San Gwann 9 and Marsa 5.
