BOV Division 1: Sirens hit five past Swieqi

Sirens keep marching on in the BOV First Division as they defeated Swieqi United 5-0 at the Victor Tedesco Stadium in one of four matches in programme on Wednesday. A win which restores a three-point lead over second-placed Santa Lucia.

Luke Mijic opened the scoring on the 13th minute, Kane Paul Farrugia doubled the score on the 22nd and six minutes later, Ige Adeshina made it 3-0. Six minutes from the end of the first half, Mattia Del Negro scored a fourth goal with Ige Adeshina adding another on the hour.

A brace by Dhonatan Santos da Hora gave Gudja United a 2-0 win over Mqabba at the Centenary Stadium. The Brazilian put Gudja ahead on the 12th and doubled the score on the 32nd.

Vittoriosa Stars and San Gwann shared the spoils in a 2-2 draw at the Centenary Stadium. Sergio Hili converted a penalty to put San Gwann ahead on the 22nd minute but Jamie Pace equalised on the 37th. Joseph Jojo Ogunnupe made it 2-1 for Vittoriosa eleven minutes from time but Chistian Gauci levelled matters three minutes later.

Meanwhile goals by Steven Meilak on the 27th, Mead Mifsud on the 57th and Joel Ellul on the 67th gave Naxxar Lions a 3-0 win over bottom-placed Marsa in another match at the Victor Tedesco Stadium.

Sirens lead the way with 30 points, followed by Santa Lucia on 27, Gudja 23, Naxxar 20, Lija 19, Zejtun, Qrendi and Swieqi 17, Pembroke 16, Vittoriosa and Zebbug 15, Mqabba 13, San Ġwann 10 and Marsa 5.
