BOV Women’s League: Mġarr confirm themselves as Birkirkara’s main challengers

Mġarr United defeated Hibernians at the Charles Abela Stadium on Thursday to cement themselves in second place of the 2018/2019 BOV Women’s League, six points behind leaders Birkirkara.

One goal in each half was enough for Patrick Curmi’s side to keep leaders Birkirkara in their sights. Roxanne Micallef put the Greens ahead on the 35th minute. After the change of ends, Angelique Schembri doubled the score ten minutes from time.

Birkirkara have underlined their superiority once again as they scored five past Mosta at the Charles Abela Stadium on Wednesday.

Melania Bajada’s team took half an hour to break down the Blues when Tracy Teuma opened the score. Three minutes from the end of the first half, Ylenia Carabott doubled the score. Any hopes of a comeback from Mosta were dashed when seven minutes in the second-half, Kailey Willis extended the lead to 3-0. Carabott was on the scoresheet again on the hour mark before Alishia Sultana wrapped up the win with the fifth goal on minute 82.

Swieqi United and Raiders (Luxol) did not harm each other as they shared the spoils in a goalless stalemate at the Mġarr Ground on Wednesday. They had also finished their first round tie in an identical score.

In another match at the Mġarr Ground on Thursday, Kirkop United defeated Fgura United 4-1.

Estonia international, Liis Pello grabbed a brace on minute nine and on the 47th minute, with Jasmine Grech and Demi Magrin scoring a goal each in between – on the 34th and 42nd respectively. Fgura’s scorer was Aleksandra Marinkovic 15 minutes from time.
