BOV Division 1: Sirens hit ten past Marsa

Leaders Sirens registered a most incredible 10-2 win over Marsa in a top-bottom clash from the BOV First Division at the Centenary Stadium on Sunday.

The St. Paul’s Bay side were already leading 8-1 at half-time. Abdullahi Ige Adeshina put Sirens ahead on the 7th and Luke Galea doubled the score three minutes later. Ratko Mandic made it 3-0 on the 16th and Marco Antonio Morgo Filho 4-0 two minutes later. Russell Fenech scored a fifth on the 22nd with Sirens reducing the gap through Steven Camilleri five minutes later. Morgon Filho scored another two goals on the 34th and 37th with Adeshina scored the eighth goal on the 43rd. Michael Micallef scored twice in the second half for Sirens on the 48th and 57th with Larken Friggieri converting a penalty on the 72nd for Marsa.

Lija Athletic moved fourth thanks to a 3-1 win over Naxxar Lions. Koken Kuroki put Lija ahead on the 7th minute and although Edson Farias Cerqueira equalised on the 21st, Lija were quick to regain the lead thanks to Erjon Beu on the 23rd with Leon Muscat adding another three minutes later.

A goal by Firas Aboulezz on the 49th handed Gudja United a narrow win over Pembroke Athleta at the Victor Tedesco Stadium and Luca Casha’s goal on the 58th handed Vittoriosa Stars a 1-0 win over Mqabba at the Centenary Stadium. On the other hand, a Ion Alin Margarit penalty on the 83rd minute gave Swieqi United a 1-0 win over San Gwann.

Sirens lead the way with 33 points, followed by Santa Lucia on 30, Gudja on 26, Lija 22, Zejtun, Naxxar and Swieqi 20, Vittoriosa 18, Qrendi 17, Pembroke 16, Zebbug 15, Mqabba 13, San Gwann 10 and Marsa 5.
