Victoria Hotspurs edge past Ghajnsielem

Victoria Hotspurs defeated Ghajnsielem by the odd goal in five in a match from the BOV Gozo Football League First Division at the Gozo Stadium on Friday. A win which keeps the Hotspurs six points clear of Nadur Youngsters.

Shaun Bajada opened the score for the Hotspurs on the 32nd but Charles Hili equalised seven minutes in the second half. Elton da Silva converted a penalty four minutes later for the leaders but a Luis Andre de Melo penalty on the 68th restored equilibrium. However Daniel Sowatey made it 3-2 for the Hotspurs on the 76th minute.

In another match on Friday, Kercem Ajax and Gharb Rangers shared the spoils in a 1-1 draw. Felipe Augusto de Oliveira put Kercem ahead just before half-time with Hugo Santa Rosa Cruz equalising thanks to a penalty on the 48th.

Meanwhile the matches which were scheduled for Sunday were played on Wednesday with Nadur Youngsters and Xewkija Tigers winning as expected.

Nadur defeated SK Victoria Wanderers 4-1. Goals by Marcelo Barbosa on the 16th and 27th and Leiner Garcia Panesso on the 26th gave Nadur a three-goal lead. Predrag Djordjevic pulled one back on the 48th but Marcelo Barbosa made it 4-1 on the 73rd.

On the other hand, Xewkija beat Munxar Falcons 4-2. A brace by Halleson Tiago Barbosa Honorato on the 14th and 35th put Xewkija two goals ahead but goals by Gabriel Muscat on the 67th and Diego Martins de Souza on the 75th restored equilibrium. However Halleson Tiago Barbosa Honorato made it 3-2 on the 76th with Claudio Antunes sealing the issue with a fourth goal seven minutes from time.

Meanwhile in the BOV Gozo Football League Second Division, Sannat Lions regained a three-point lead as they beat Zebbug Rovers 3-2 on Tuesday.

Ralph Ebube Okpokwu put Sannat ahead on the 13th but Elijah Xuereb levelled matters on the 27th. An own goal on the hour restored the lead for Sannat and although Marcos Peres Vega equalised three minutes from time, Okpokwu notched the winner four minutes in added time.
