Munxar beat Xewkija in nine-goal thriller

Munxar Falcons claimed three imporant points in the battle against relegation as they defeated Xewkija Tigers 5-4 at the Gozo Stadium on Sunday.

Borja Polo Longarela put Munxar ahead on the 6th minute and Jhon Jairo Sandobal Guarin doubled the score ten minutes later. Xewkija hit back with goals by Halleson Tiago Barbosa Honorato on the 29th, Michael Camilleri on the 36th, a Halleson Tiago Barbosa Honorato penalty on the 43rd and Milos Stojanovic on the 48th to go 4-2 ahead. Borja Polo Longarela reduced the gap for Munxar on the 51st and after Halleson Tiago Barbosa Honorato missed a penalty for Xewkija, Diego Martins de Souza equalised on the 78th and three minutes later, Borja Polo Longarela notched the winner for the Falcons.

In another match on Sunday, goals by Shaun Attard on the 14th, Jefferson de Assis on the 15th, Marcelo Barbosa on the 27th, Leiner Garcia Panesso on the 35th and Marcelo Barbosa once again on the 78th gave Nadur Youngsters a 5-0 win over Gharb Rangers.

On Tuesday, Victoria Hotspurs defeated Ghajnsielem 5-1. Elton da Silva opened the score on the 17th. Henrique Maciel made it 2-0 on the 32nd and ten minutes later, Henrique Maciel scored a third goal. Kenneth Mercieca pulled one back on the 59th but seven minutes later, Henrique Maciel made it 4-1 and Christian Mercieca added another on the 79th.

In another match, SK Victoria Wanderers defeated Kercem Ajax 2-0 thanks to goals by Aud-Gustine James Obaje on the 17th and Sam Harland on the 33rd.

Meanwhile last week, Gharb Rangers and SK Victoria Wanderers shared the spoils in a 2-2 draw. Goals by Audgustine James Obaje on the 26th and 45th gave the Wanderers a two-goal lead but Hugo Santa Rosa Cruz pulled one back on the 55th and Pablo Nunez del Castillo equalised on the 80th.

In another match on Wednesday, Nadur Youngsters defeated Ghajnsielem 6-2. Jefferson de Assis put Nadur ahead on the 16th but Luis Andre de Melo Lima equalised on the 27th. Nadur regained the lead thanks to a Daniel Mateo Bustos penalty on the 37th and increased the lead through Leiner Garcia Panesso two minutes later. Alberto Xuereb scored a second goal for the Blacks on the 40th but in the second half, goals by Shaun Attard on the 56th, Marcelo Barbosa on the 57th and 85th handed the Youngsters a comfortable win.

Meanwhile in the BOV Gozo Football League Second Division, Oratory Youths defeated Qala Saints 2-0 thanks to goals by Daniele Degennaro on the 9th and Anthony Zammit on the 51st.

On the other hand, Xaghra United beat St. Lawrence Spurs 1-0 courtesy of Matthias Michael Uzor on the 23rd.
