BOV Division 2: Mgarr, Fgura share spoils in draw

Mgarr United and Fgura United shared the spoils in a 1-1 draw at the Victor Tedesco Stadium in a clash between two of the teams fighting from promotion to Division 1 in one of the four matches from the BOV Second Division on Sunday.

Aaron Sammut put Mgarr ahead on the 42nd but Gilbert Martin equalised on the 68th.

A goal by Jonathan Micallef on the 32nd minute gave Sta. Venera Lightnings three important points as they defeated Siggiewi 1-0 at the Luxol Stadium.

Zabbar St. Patrick collected another three precious points in the battle against relegation as a goal by Kumpei Tanaka four minutes from time handed them a surprise win over Birzebbuga St. Peter’s.

In another match, Melita were held in a 2-2 draw by Luqa St. Andrew’s. Liam Reno Gatt put Melita ahead on the 14th but Lydon Sciberras levelled matters on the 44th. Melita were quick to regain the lead a minute later through Emilio Cornago but Wayne Busuttil restored equilibrium on the 68th.

Fgura lead the way with 44 points, followed by St. George’s on 41, Marsaxlokk and Mgarr 39, Birzebbuga 37, Melita 29, Rabat 28, Kalkara and Zabbar 19, Mellieha and Sta. Venera 16, Luqa 13 and Siggiewi 12.
