Victoria Hotspurs make it nine wins in a row

Victoria Hotspurs edged closer to the title in the BOV Gozo Football League First Division as they defeated Kercem Ajax 2-1 at the Gozo Stadium on Thursday. A win which keeps the Hotspurs six points clear of Nadur Youngsters.

Elton da Silva put them ahead on the 16th and Miguel Montano doubled the score on the 79th. Milos Perisic scored a consolation goal for Kercem on the 90th.

In another match on Thursday, Xewkija Tigers returned to winning ways as they beat Gharb Rangers 4-2. Junior Elisio Batista Da Conceicao put Gharb ahead on the 3rd minute but Daniel Bogdanovic scored twice on the 25th and 27th to turn the score in favour of Xewkija. Claudio Antunes was quick to add another on the 31st. Junior Elisio Batista Da Conceicao had a penalty saved by the Xewkija goalkeeper and Milos Stojanovic made it 4-1 for the Tigers on the 84th. Hugo Santa Rosa Cruz reduced the gap two minutes from time.

On Sunday, Ghajnsielem registered a 2-1 win over Munxar Falcons. Luis Andre de Melo Lima opened the score thanks to a penalty on the 19th but Borja Polo Longarela equalised on the 29th. Diego Martins De Souza missed a penalty for Munxar and one minute in added time, de Melo Lima notched the winner for Ghajnsielem.

In another match, a penalty by Marcelo Barbosa on the 68th handed Nadur Youngsters a narrow win over SK Victoria Wanderers.

Meanwhile in the Gozo Football League Second Division, Sannat Lions joined Xaghra United on top thanks to a 7-0 win over Qala Saints at the Kercem Ajax Stadium on Saturday.

Brandon Said scored twice on the 4th and 67th, Ralph Ebube Okpokwu on the 25th, Fabian Xuereb on the 46th, Charlton Mifsud on the 65th and Joseph Zammit twice on the 70th and 76th.

In another match, St. Lawrence Spurs beat Zebbug Rovers 4-0 courtesy of Jason Theuma on the 57th and 91st, Charlon Farrugia on the 63rd and an own goal on the 87th.
