BOV Division 2: Precious points for Luqa

Luqa St. Andrew’s claimed three precious points in the battle against relegation as they defeated Mellieha in a direct clash from the BOV Second Division at the Centenary Stadium on Sunday. A win which puts them on level points with the Sky Blues and Zabbar St. Patrick.

Andy Portelli put Luqa ahead on the 13th minute and although David Fenech converted a penalty on the 29th to level matters, Ronan Cassar scored on the 32nd and Andy Portelli added another on the 36th to hand Luqa a comfortable lead. Twelve minutes from time, Mellieha reduced the gap through Luke Mallia.

In another match, Rabat Ajax returned to winning ways as they defeated Sta. Venera Lightnings 2-0, courtesy of Jean Scholey on the 14th and Luke Gatt on the 72nd.

Fgura lead the way with 47 points, followed by Mgarr on 45, St. George’s 44, Marsaxlokk and Birzebbuga 40, Melita 33, Rabat 31, Kalkara 20, Zabbar, Mellieha and Luqa 19, Sta. Venera 16 and Siggiewi 13.
