Battle against relegation takes centre stage on Friday

Senglea Athletic, St. Andrews and Qormi will know their fate on Friday as they play their final matches – matches which should determine whether they will be playing in the BOV Premier League or not.

Senglea are currently fourth from bottom on 23 points, followed by St. Andrews on 21 and Qormi on 19. Pietà Hotspurs, on 13 points, have already been relegated.

Senglea Athletic take on Birkirkara at the Victor Tedesco Stadium, St. Andrews face Gzira United at the Hibernians Stadium while Qormi play Mosta the National Stadium. The three matches kick-off at 20:00.

A win for Senglea would ensure they retain their Premier League status. On the other hand, if Senglea draw and St. Andrews win, a decider would be necessary to determine who will take part in the Play-Off. If Senglea lose and St. Andrews win, St. Andrews would secure their status and Senglea would take part in the Play-Off.

Qormi need to win their last game, hoping that St. Andrews lose. In that case, Qormi would take part in the Play-Off while St. Andrews would be relegated. On the other hand, a decider would be necessary to determine who would take part in the Play-Off and who would be relegated should Qormi win and St. Andrews are held in a draw.

In recent weeks, Qormi made remarkable improvement, registering back-to-back wins over Hibernians and Birkirkara in the last two weeks. Senglea, on the other hand, claimed six points from the last five matches thanks to a comfortable 5-0 win over St. Andrews, draws with Tarxien, Hamrun and Sliema, before losing 0-2 to title challengers Senglea on Monday. On the other hand, St. Andrews returned to winning ways on Monday thanks to a narrow win over Floriana after losing ten of the previous twelve matches.

In the first round, Gzira had defeated St. Andrews 2-1, Mosta beat Qormi 2-0 and Birkirkara defeated Senglea 2-0.

Meanwhile in another match at the National Stadium, kick-off at 18:00, Tarxien Rainbows face Floriana.

Three points separate the two teams with Floriana lying eighth on 29 points and Tarxien tenth on 26.

In the first round, Floriana defeated Tarxien 4-0.
