More funds for clubs taking part in UEFA competitions

UEFA_logo_2012Local clubs taking part in UEFA competitions will receive higher income as UEFA announced the detailed financial distribution system for its club competitions and the solidarity payments for the 2015/18 cycle in the UEFA Champions League and UEFA Europa League. The local champions will in fact receive over half a million euro and local participants in the UEFA Europa League €200,000.

A new distribution system has been adopted by UEFA, in close cooperation with the European Club Association (ECA). All revenues of the two competitions will for the first time be centralised into one single pot, with the redistribution to participating clubs based on a fixed ratio of 3.3:1 between UEFA Champions League and UEFA Europa League.

Mark Gatt names women’s national squad ahead of EURO qualifiers

women-malta-latvia150318Women’s national team coach named the final squad ahaed of the UEFA Women’s EURO Preliminary Round Group 2 mini-tournament which will be played between the 4th and 9th April.

Malta plays Andorra on Saturday 4 at 14:15, Georgia on Monday at 14:15 and the Faroe Islands on Thursday 9 at 11:00. The three matches will be played at the Victor Tedesco Stadium.

Under-15 Girls defeat Romania in friendly match

girls-malta-romania150330A goal by Keeva Camilleri on 32 minutes gave the Malta girls’ Under-15 national team a narrow win over Romania in the first of two friendly matches between the two countries at the Centenary Stadium.

Camilleri scored the all-important goal on the 32nd minute when she received a through pass by Kathryn Ellul and beat the Romanian goalkeeper.

Temporary ban on Xewkija Tigers player lifted

MFAThe Malta Football Association announced that following investigations by the Office of the MFA Prosecutor and following a report by the same prosecutor, Xewkija Tigers FC player Peter Buttigieg will not be charged for alleged involvement in the attempt of match-fixing of the Gozo FA First Divisin match between Nadur Youngsters FC and Xewkija Tigers FC on February 7th.

Therefore the MFA lifted the temporary suspension it had imposed on the Xewkija player.

Xewkija move closer to championship

Gozo-Football-AssociationXewkija Tigers moved another step towards the Melita First Division championship in Gozo after beating Victoria Hotspurs 2-0 on Sunday.

John Camilleri put Xewkija ahead on 67 minutes with Daniel Bogdanovic securing victory with another goal two minutes in added time.

Nadur Youngsters came back from a goal down to beat Kercem Ajax 5-2.
