Five-star Hibernians move thirteen points clear

BOV-Premier-LeagueLeaders Hibernians extended their positive record thanks to a most comfortable 5-0 win over Floriana. A win which puts Branko Nisevic’s side thirteen points clear following Birkirkara’s 3-4 defeat to Pietà.

The Greens definitely expected something better from this game after winning two of the previous three matches, including a 2-1 win over Birkirkara but this time, Hibernians were far too superior.

Meanwhile at the Victor Tedesco Stadium, Michael Mifsud scored his first goal for Sliema Wanderers as the Blues returned to winning ways, defeating Tarxien Rainbows 2-0.

BOV Division 2: Gudja United held by Fgura

BOV-First-DivisionGudja United failed to take sole leadership in the BOV First Division as they were held in a goalless draw by Fgura United in one of the two matches in programme on Saturday.

Gudja, therefore, join Lija and Melita in second place while Fgura are now eighth on ten points together with Gzira and Msida.

Msida St. Joseph, in fact, also earned a point in a 1-1 draw with Mqabba. Ricardo Faria put Msida ahead on 18 minutes but twelve minutes from time, Luke Scorfna levelled matters for Mqabba.

BOV Division 2: San Gwann new leaders

BOV-Second-DivisionSan Gwann are the new leaders of the BOV Second Division after they registered their eighth consecutive win, beating Ghaxaq 3-0 to move two points clear of Hamrun Spartans. Shawn Vella opened the score on 19 minutes and two goals by Dylan Pirotta in the final two minutes before the end of the first half sealed the issue.

Zabbar St. Patrick won the derby against Xghajra Tornados 2-0 to maintain the challenge for promotion. Jean Claude Cesare converted a penalty on 37 minutes and deep into stoppage time, Randall Cassar doubled the score.

A goal four minutes in added time by Muda Fagbeja gave Gharghur a narrow win over Zejtun Corinthians.

Hotspurs shock Stripes in seven-goal thriller

BOV-Premier-LeagueBirkirkara suffered a second consecutive defeat and the fifth so far this season as they allowed newly-promoted Pietà Hotspurs to turn defeat into victory and beat them 4-3.

This win enables Pietà to close in on the teams lying just ahead of them in the BOV Premier League while for Birkirakra, this was yet another disappointing result as this could leave them thirteen points behind leaders and rivals Hibernians.

Zebbug Rangers and Balzan earned a point each as the two teams shared the spoils in a 1-1 draw.
