Ten-man Valletta return to winning ways

BOV-Premier-LeagueAfter collecting just one point from the last three matches, Valletta returned to winning ways as they defeated bottom-placed Qormi 3-1 despite playing for almost an hour in ten men.

A win which puts Valletta eleven points behind leaders Hibernians and three behind Birkirkara. On the other hand, for Qormi, this was the ninth defeat in ten matches.

BOV-First-DivisionLeaders St. Andrews keep marching on in the BOV First Division following a 4-0 win over bottom-placed Birzebbuga St. Peter’s.

Matteo Desira Buttigieg put them ahead on 31 minutes and the same player doubled the score six minutes later. Player-coach Brian Said made it 3-0 on the 84th minute and two minutes from time, Kyrian Nwoko sealed the issue with a fourth goal.

A goal by Ayrton Azzopardi on the 27th minute gave Pembroke Athleta a third consecutive win as they beat Lija Athletic 1-0. A win which puts Jacques Scerri’s side back in second place.

BOV Division 3: Sole leadership for Mgarr — Qrendi move second

BOV-Third-DivisionMgarr United take sole leadership in the BOV Third Division after winning a top-of-the-table clash with Santa Lucia. Kirkop United suffered a third defeat in four matches, losing to Attard while Qrendi move second thanks to an impressive win over Marsaxlokk.

Mgarr defeated Santa Lucia 2-1 in a clash between two of the teams who were sharing the top spot. Christian Farrugia put Santa Lucia ahead on the 13th, Joseph Paul Zammit equalised two minutes in the second half and two minutes later, Matthew Muscat made it 2-1.

Attard came from behind to beat Kirkop United 2-1. Michael Zammit put Kirkop ahead after just two minutes but one minute in the second half, Matthew Borg levelled matters and Malcolm Tirchett notched the winner on the 62nd.

BOV-Premier-LeagueBirkirkara kept the pace with leaders Hibernians as they registered a 3-0 win over Mosta.

Two goals within the first thirty minutes paved the way for Paul Zammit’s side, adding another late in the game. For Mosta, this was the third defeat in five matches. The Blues, who lie just two points ahead of Pietà and Zebbug and three ahead of Naxxar and Tarxien, won just one of the last ten matches.

Hibernians hit five past Zebbug

BOV-Premier-LeagueLeaders Hibernians moved temporarily eleven points clear in the BOV Premier League table following a most comfortable 5-0 win over Zebbug Rangers at the Hibernians Stadium. This was the twenty-first win for Hibernians in twenty-four matches to extend their unbeaten record in their league campaign.

More was expected from Zebbug who were coming from a fine 3-2 win over Valletta last week. They now share the eighth place with Pietà, one point ahead of Tarxien and Naxxar and three ahead of Qormi.

Meanwhile at the Victor Tedesco Stadium, Balzan survived an early scare as they came back from one goal down to beat Naxxar Lions 2-1 and return to winning ways after collecting just one point from the previous two matches.

BOV Division 1: Dramatic win for Vittoriosa

BOV-First-DivisionVittoriosa Stars scored two late goals to turn defeat into victory as they beat Msida St. Joseph in a match from the BOV First Division on Saturday.

Michael Camilleri put the Stars ahead on the 4th minute but a brace by Helder Souza on the 5th and 45th turned the score in favour of Msida. However substitutes Henrique Eder Guedes and Gianluca Calabretta hit twice on the 85th and 87th respectively to hand Arturo di Napoli’s side a second consecutive win.

In another match, Gzira United moved back in second place thanks to a 3-1 win over Melita.
