Valletta back in second place — Qormi bounce back in direct clash against relegation

BOV-Premier-LeagueValletta moved back into second place as they defeated Birkirkara 2-1, therefore halting the Stripes’ positive run of eighteen matches without defeat.

The Citizens are now two points ahead of Birkirkara with two games to go for the end of the Premier League campaign.

Meanwhile Qormi collected three precious points in the battle against relegation as they defeated Tarxien Rainbows 4-0.

Pietà Hotspurs win basement clash

BOV-Premier-LeaguePietà Hotspurs maintained alive hopes of avoiding relegation as they defeated Zebbug Rangers 3-1 in the clash between the two teams lying in the bottom two places in the BOV Premier League.

For the Hotspurs, this was the first win after eight matches. A win which puts them four points clear of Zebbug. On the other hand, for Zebbug, this was the eighth consecutive defeat.

Meanwhile in another match, Sliema Wanderers secured their Premier League status with a 5-1 win over Mosta.

BOV Division 3: Decider necessary to determine championship as Mgarr, Kirkop register wins

mgarr-attard150425pzcA decider is necessary to determine the BOV Third Division championship as Kirkop United and Mgarr United ended their commitments on top with 42 points.

Mgarr United beat Attard 4-1. Mark Abela gave Mgarr an early lead, on the 7th minute and six minutes in the second half, Ryan Vella converted a penalty to double the score. Rodney Galea pulled one back for Attard on the 69th but goals by Mark Abela nine minutes from time and James Borg three minutes later sealed the issue for Mgarr.

On the other hand, Kirkop United defeated Marsaskala 3-0.

BOV Division 1: Gzira United force decider for third place

BOV-First-DivisionA decider for third place is necessary in the BOV First Division after Gzira United defeated Mqabba 2-0 to join Melita on the 45-points mark. The decider would determine who will take part in the BOV Premier League play-off against the team finishing third from bottom in the Premier League.

The Maroons scored the two goals in the final seven minutes as John Nwoba managed to break the deadlock on 83 minutes and Ryan Dalli doubled the score three minutes later.

Balzan hope to edge closer to European dream

hibs-balzan150213pzcBalzan will be hoping to moving a step closer to securing fourth place and hence a place in the UEFA Europa League this summer as they face champions Hibernians in one of the two BOV Premire League matches in programme on Sunday.

Oliver Spiteri’s side lies seven points ahead of Floriana, who face Naxxar Lions, in the first game. In case, Floriana fail to beat Naxxar, Balzan would be sure of fourth place.
