The Citizens dominated from start to finish. On the other hand, for Mosta, following a 2-1 win over Tarxien in their last outing, this was another disappointing game as this was the sixth defeat in seven matches.

BOV Division 1: Vittoriosa, St. George’s share spoils in entertaining derby

BOV-First-DivisionVittoriosa Stars and St. George’s earned a point each from the derby as they shared the spoils in an entertaining 2-2 draw in one of the four matches from the BOV First Division.

Michael Camilleri put Vittoriosa ahead on 12 minutes and six minutes from the end of the first half, Francisco Arriagada Mella doubled the score. Francis Ita pulled one back for St. George’s on 64 minutes and two minutes from time, Larson Mallia converted a penalty to notch the equaliser.

Leaders St. Andrews defeated ten-man Rabat Ajax 3-1. Luxol took the lead thanks to a goal by Matteo Desira Buttigieg. Rabat had Lawrence Chiedozie sent off for what seemed a rather harsh decision by referee Glen Tonna. Emiliano Lattes doubled the score, David Azzopardi pulled one back for Rabat but Trayo Grozev sealed the issue with a third goal.

BOV Division 3: Kirkop United take sole leadership

BOV-Third-DivisionKirkop United take sole leadership in the BOV Third Division following a 5-1 win over Kalkara in one of the six matches in programme on Sunday.

Michael Zammit put Kirkop ahead on the 8th minute and although Jacob Camilleri converted a penalty to level matters eight minutes in the second half, Michael Zammit scored again on 68 minutes to make it 2-1. Ilyad Scicluna added another on 76 minutes and four minutes later, Zammit scored the fourth goal. Five minutes from time, Michael Theuma sealed the issue with a fifth goal.

Santa Lucia were held in a 1-1 draw by St. Venera Lightnings to fall into third place. Brian Chetcuti put Santa Lucia ahead on the 40th but eleven minutes from time, Jonathan Micallef equalised for the Lightnings.

Late Gilmar goal earns a point for Naxxar

BOV-Premier-LeagueNaxxar Lions rescued a point as a goal deep into stoppage time enabled them to earn a point in a 1-1 draw with Qormi.

Qormi held the initiative throughout the ninety minutes but failed to extend their one-goal lead after breaking the deadlock early in the second half. However thanks to this draw, Josef Mansueto’s side still extend their positive run to six matches – three wins and three draws. Naxxar, on the other hand, are still second from bottom.

Five-star Hibernians move thirteen points clear

hibs-floriana141122pzcLeaders Hibernians extended their positive record thanks to a most comfortable 5-0 win over Floriana. A win which puts Branko Nisevic’s side thirteen points clear following Birkirkara’s 3-4 defeat to Pietà.

The Greens definitely expected something better from this game after winning two of the previous three matches, including a 2-1 win over Birkirkara but this time, Hibernians were far too superior.

Meanwhile at the Victor Tedesco Stadium, Michael Mifsud scored his first goal for Sliema Wanderers as the Blues returned to winning ways, defeating Tarxien Rainbows 2-0.

BOV-First-DivisionGudja United failed to take sole leadership in the BOV First Division as they were held in a goalless draw by Fgura United in one of the two matches in programme on Saturday.

Gudja, therefore, join Lija and Melita in second place while Fgura are now eighth on ten points together with Gzira and Msida.

Msida St. Joseph, in fact, also earned a point in a 1-1 draw with Mqabba. Ricardo Faria put Msida ahead on 18 minutes but twelve minutes from time, Luke Scorfna levelled matters for Mqabba.

BOV-Second-DivisionSan Gwann are the new leaders of the BOV Second Division after they registered their eighth consecutive win, beating Ghaxaq 3-0 to move two points clear of Hamrun Spartans. Shawn Vella opened the score on 19 minutes and two goals by Dylan Pirotta in the final two minutes before the end of the first half sealed the issue.

Zabbar St. Patrick won the derby against Xghajra Tornados 2-0 to maintain the challenge for promotion. Jean Claude Cesare converted a penalty on 37 minutes and deep into stoppage time, Randall Cassar doubled the score.

A goal four minutes in added time by Muda Fagbeja gave Gharghur a narrow win over Zejtun Corinthians.

Hotspurs shock Stripes in seven-goal thriller

zebbug-balzan141122pzcBirkirkara suffered a second consecutive defeat and the fifth so far this season as they allowed newly-promoted Pietà Hotspurs to turn defeat into victory and beat them 4-3.

This win enables Pietà to close in on the teams lying just ahead of them in the BOV Premier League while for Birkirakra, this was yet another disappointing result as this could leave them thirteen points behind leaders and rivals Hibernians.

Zebbug Rangers and Balzan earned a point each as the two teams shared the spoils in a 1-1 draw.
