Malta Summer Cup: Zebbug, Mosta reach semi-finals

In Thursday’s semi-finals, Balzan take on Mosta at 18:30 while Zebbug Rangers face Pietà Hotspurs at 20:30.

Malta Summer Cup: Balzan, Pietà through to semi-finals

luxol-stadiumBalzan and Pietà Hotspurs reached the semi-finals of The Convenience Shop Malta Summer Cup as Group A came to an end on Saturday. Pietà beat Naxxar Lions 2-0 while Balzan defeated Qormi 2-1. Balzan won Group A with nine points, followed by Pietà on six, Naxxar three and Qormi zero points.

In the first game, following a goalless first half, Pietà Hotspurs took the lead thanks to a goal by Rafael Xavier on 59 minutes and seven minutes later, Claudio Daniel Frances doubled the score. Terence Vella was sent off for Naxxar.

In the other match, Qormi managed to go ahead through a goal by Albert Bruce after just four minutes. Justin Grioli levelled matters on 25 minutes and Jean Pierre Mifsud Triganza notched the winner on the 76th.

Karl Pulo, Kurt Magro join Mosta

mosta-fcMosta continued to strengthen their squad with the signing of Carl Sammut from Tarxien Rainbows and Kurt Magro from Valletta. Both players join the club on a one-year loan.

A product of Pietà Hotspurs, Karl Pulo made his Premier League debut in season 2005/06. Pulo joined Birkirkara in summer 2009 but in 20011, he joined Tarxien Rainbows.

On the other hand, Kurt Magro made his Premier League debut with Valletta in season 2003/04. He played for one season on loan with Msida St. Joseph in 2008/09 and then with Tarxien Rainbows. Magro had two spells on loan with Mosta in season 2011/12 and the latter part of season 2012/13, spending last season on loan with Balzan.

Malta Summer Cup: Mosta turn defeat into victory

luxol-stadiumMosta came back from two goals down to beat Floriana 3-2 in one of the two matches from Group B of The Convenience Shop Malta Summer Cup at the Luxol Stadium.

A brace by Matteo Piciollo on the 15th and 25th put the Greens two goals ahead. James Brincat pulled one back on 33 minutes for Mosta and Luis Pena equalised six minutes in the second half. Daniel Mariano Bueno made it 3-2 for Mosta on the 61st. Luis Pena was sent off for the Blues.

In another match, Zebbug Rangers defeated First Division side Vittoriosa Stars 4-1.
