Pembroke end Premier League commitments on a positive note

BOV-Premier-LeaguePembroke Athleta came back from two goals down as they beat Mosta 5-3 at the Victor Tedesco Stadium to end the season on a positive note. Winston Muscat’s side leapfrogs Mosta into eighth place.

This win also boosts their morale ahead of next week’s FA Trophy semi-final against Balzan.

Play-off spot, relegation to be determined on Friday

Neymar Jr’s Five finalists off to Brazil

neymar-5s-off-to-brazil2016Banter Lads are the Maltese champions of the Neymar Jr’s Five tournament, the global football tournament from Red Bull, inspired by the Barcelona and Brazil star Neymar Jr. They will now travel to Brazil where they will face representing teams from 40 different countries and an opportunity to meet the man himself!

Last weekend, around 20 teams took part in the Maltese qualifier at the Luxol Grounds. At first the teams found it a bit hard to adapt to the new rules, with no goalkeeper in the goal post, scoring in 1m mini goals and playing with less players every time their team conceded a goal.

Anti-Corruption & Transparency Experts’ Task-Force make proposal for National Action Plan

task-force-april-meetingThe third meeting of the Anti-Corruption & Transparency Experts’ Task Force, created by the Malta Football Association and which involves several stakeholders, was held on Monday in order to make a proposal to Parliament of a National Action Plan that focuses on four aspects – prevention and education, legislation, regulation sports, investigation and enforcement.

Following a proposal by the Executive Committee, the MFA took the initiative of bringing together all stakeholders in order to set-up a national platform to start working to combat corruption in sport and not just in football as it was the case in other countries.

Holders Birkirkara paired with Sliema in FA Trophy semi-finals

fa-trophy-logo2014Holders Birkirkara were paired with Sliema Wanderers in the FA Trophy semi-finals while Balzan take on Pembroke Athleta. The draws were held at the National Stadium on Wednesday. Sliema vs Birkirkara will be played on Saturday 7 May and Balzan vs Pembroke on Sunday 8. The final is scheduled for Saturday 14.

The Stripes are chasing a sixth FA Trophy win while the Wanderers who won the competition for a record twenty times target a first major honour since winning the FA Trophy and the Super Cup in 2009.

On the other hand, one team between Balzan and Pembroke Athleta is therefore sure of reaching a historic place in the final after both reached the semi-finals for the first time.
