Balzan extend Oliver Spiteri’s contract

Spiteri had joined Balzan in summer 2014, leading the club to a historic fourth place and participation in the UEFA Europa League.

Second wins for Valletta, Sliema in St. Andrews Tournament

luxol-stadiumValletta and Sliema Wanderers registered their second win in the Summer Friendship Cup as they registered wins during the weekend.

In Group A, on Saturday, Valletta beat First Division side Melita 4-0. Uchenna Callistus Umeh put the Citizens ahead on the 10th and five minutes later, Njongo Priso doubled the score. Jean Pierre Mifsud Triganza increased the lead further eight minutes later with Njongo Priso sealing the issue with a fourth goal on the 90th.

In Group B, Sliema Wanderers defeated another First Division side, Fgura United, 2-1. Ryan Dalli put the Amateurs ahead on 35 minutes but Armando Terna levelled matters seven minutes later. However Mark Scerri notched the winner on the 78th minute.

Under-19 side to play friendly matches in Azerbaijan

MFAThe Malta Under-19 national team will be travelling to Baku, Azerbaijan, for two friendly matches on the 5th and 7th August.

Newly-appointed Under-19 national coach David De Sousa Nascimento and his assistant Noel Turner named an eighteen-man squad for this trip. The squad includes Italy-based Conor Borg of AS Roma and Juan Carlos Corbalan of Virtus Lanciano.

UEFA Europa League appointment for Clayton Pisani

Clayton-Pisani-2014UEFA has appointed FIFA Referee Clayton Pisani to take charge of the UEFA Europa League third Qualifying Round second Leg match Rosenborg BK (Norway) vs Debreceni VSC (Hungary) being played at the Lerkendal Stadium in Trondheim, Norway, on Thursday.

Clayton Pisani will be assisted by experienced FIFA Assistant Referees Alan Camilleri and Edward Spiteri, while the youngest Elite Referee, at age 26, Philip Farrugia will act as 4th Official.

Youth FA Presentation Night 2014/15

youth-fa-most-promising2014-15The Youth Football Association hosted its Annual Presentation Night yesterday at the Palace Hotel in Sliema, where the winners of the various awards were presented with trophies and mementoes for their achievements during the 2014/15 Season.

The awards were presented by the Youth FA President, Fr. Hilary Tagliaferro, MFA President, Norman Darmanin Demajo, MFA Technical Director, Robert Gatt and APS Bank Officials Patrick Aquilina and Peter Gatt. The most prominent awards for the night were those presented to the Most Promising Players – Michele Sansone (Sliema W.) and Nicholas Farrugia (Birkirkara), Section A Winners – Mosta and Birkirkara, Knock-Out winners – Valletta and St. Andrews and the fair play winners – Birzebbuga and Attard, in their respective age categories – Under 17 and Under 15.
