Malta International Tournament
 1986-2004
The Malta International Tournament is a tournament which is organised by the Malta Football Association every two years. Between 1986 and 2002 and then once again in 2006, the tournament carried the name of its sponsor.
It was first held in 1986 as a tournament between the Malta national team under the name of MFA XI and three European clubs namely 1.F.C. Kaiserslautern of Germany, Fakel Voronezh of the USSR and Hammarby of Sweden. It was organised once again in 1987, this time the participants were VFB Stuttgart of Germany and Legia Warsaw of Poland, besides the MFA XI. In 1988, for the first time, three national teams, rather than clubs were invited and since then, the tournament has been played annually and later every two years between three or four national teams.
