Maltese Clubs in UEFA Competitions

This section deals with the participation of local clubs in European competions for clubs organised by UEFA. The first Maltese participation dates back to 1961. In 1959, Valletta FC applied to participate in the Champions Cup but the Citizens were not admitted since Malta was not affiliated to FIFA. Then when Malta became a member of the international body, Maltese clubs were admitted. The first clubs to participate were Floriana and Hibernians in 1961. These played against Servette (SWI) and Ujpest Dosza (HUN) respectively.
