MFA Academy to take part in international tournament in Italy

The MFA Youth Academy has been invited to take part in an international tournament for youths which is being played in Italy between 31st May and the 3rd of June 2012. The ‘Torneo Citta di Cairo Montenotte (22nd Edition)’ is being staged in collaboration with CONI, the FIGC and the Comune of Cairo Montenotte. The event has attracted 32 teams of youngsters between the ages of 13 and 14 years. A squad of 21 players born 1998 from the M.F.A. Academy will travel to Italy to participate in this tournament.
This year the Mellieha Sports Club is commemorating the 50th anniversary since the club was accepted as a member of the M.F.A., and started participating in the National Football Leagues.
Grassroots football is regarded as an important sector of the game as it caters for numerous youngsters who seek to flourish their talent in football. UEFA encourages initiatives by its member associations to further promulgate the game at its base level. A significant event in this respect is UEFA Grassroots Day during which different European federations hold activities to mark the occasion.
This summer the Luqa St.Andrew’s FC YN will be holding the Summer Football Camp. The training camp is open to all children, boys and girls, whether they are currently registered with Luqa YN or not. Sessions will be held once a week in the evenings.
Birkirkara won the Under-16 Girls’ Knock-Out after defeating champions Pembroke Athleta 4-2 after extra-time on Sunday.
