Malta Football Awards

0  The Westin Malta Football Awards 2001/02

Adrian Mifsud presented with the Best Striker award by Marie Briguglio and Peter BusuttilAdrian Mifsud and Hibernians claimed the largest number of honours in the first edition of The Westin Malta Football Awards which was held on Saturday July 8.

Mifsud, who was earlier voted MFA Footballer of the Year, won the awards for Best Striker and Best Local Player.

Other awards for Hibernians were those of Best Midfielder for Essien Mbong, Best Goalkeeper for Mario Muscat, Best Coach for Robert Gatt and Best Foreign Player for Ndubisi Chukunyere.

Birkirkara defender Lucien Dronca was voted Best Defender while Mauro Brincat of Hamrun Spartans was voted Most Promising Youngster. Lorry Sammut claimed the award for the Best Match Official while on a much lighter note, Lija Athletic defender Liam Mangion won the award for the Gaffe of the Year (L-Aqwa Paprata).
