Silence Please ... and the winner is ...
The fourth edition of the Westin Malta Football Awards will be held next Saturday 16th July 2005. The Westin Dragonara Resort will once again host this event that will be held during a Gala Entertainment Evening. The event is also being screened live on Net TV.
The mentor behind this activity is media.link young sports journalist Sandro Micallef. The idea behind this event originated way back during the Summer of 2000 when Sandro had discussed the idea of organizing an awards ceremony on a national level with his colleagues Robert Cutajar and John Busuttil. Both of them at that time had encouraged Sandro to go for it !!!! ….. And here we are now all waiting for this year's edition of the Westin Malta Football Awards an event which is awaited for by the majority of the local football stakeholders.
The main aim of the Malta Football Awards is to give personal recognition to players and officials who might not have been in the limelight all throughout the previous season of the Premier Football League. When one looks at other top soccer European Countries such as the English Premier League, the Italian Serie A, the German Bundesliga etc. they all organize similar awards at the end of every season. The most common awards in these countries are the best team, best coach and best referee of the season.
During this year's edition of the Westin Malta Football Awards some new categories will again be included. Last year's edition saw the introduction of a particular category being the Award for the best Female Footballer. The introduction of this award was unanimously welcomed by not only the female footballers but also from the general public.
The following is the full list of the categories together with the results of last year's edition (3rd edition):
