The Melita Digital Malta Football Awards 6th Edition
For the sixth consecutive year, the main summer sports event is back - the sixth edition of the Melita Digital Malta Football Awards will take place on the 9th June at Corinthia Palace Attard.These awards, now a prominent part of the annual local football calendar, are organized by Events Services of which Sandro Micallef and Alan Cutajar are directors. Sandro Micallef, chairperson of the Malta Football Awards organized the first edition way back in 2002 and since then, he kept organizing this event on a yearly basis as soon as the local football season comes to an end.
The awards being contested this year will be the following: Best Goalkeeper, Best Defender, Best Midfielder, Best Striker, Most Promising Youngster, Best Coach, Best Maltese Player, Best Goal, Best Female Player, Best Futsal Player (1st Div), Best Onvol GFA Div I player, Best Veteran Player over 35 years, Best First Division Player, Award for a Career, Special MFA Award, Special GFA Award and a Special YFA Award. For the second year, the award for the Best Goalkeeper is being held in honor of former Floriana and Malta Goalkeeper David Cluett. The winner will receive two trophies, one from the organizers of the event, Events Services, and another one from the Sportswriters Association, on whose initiative, the award is being named in honour of Cluett. The people entitled to vote in these awards are all involved in local football. The ten Premier Club Presidents, the ten Coaches and the ten team Captains are all invited to vote as will around 30 journalists who have followed the Premier League throughout the past season. For this year's edition, Events Services, organizers of the Melita Digital Malta Football Awards will make a restriction on the voting procedure. In fact, no player or Club Official will be allowed to vote for any member of his team in order to have a transparent voting system.
Yet, the public still has a chance to vote for his favourite player and the best support this season. In fact, people can vote for the Powerade Outstanding Player Award by sending the name of the player on SMS no 50614914. This competition is part of the programme MFA Magazine, aired on Tuesday evenings on Smash Television. The second public vote is for the Best Support this season. The public is invited to express his opinion by voting through a different SMS number 5061 4914. Votes will be registered up to 15 minutes before the end of ceremony on the 9th June. The presentation will then be done by Powerade representatives.
This sixth edition is being screened LIVE on Melita Sports 1 and Channel 47 as well on the Weather and Information Channel. A repetition will then follow on June 10th on Educational Channel 22.
