Malta Football Awards

0  The Melita Digital Malta Football Awards 2007/08

Photo by www.stephengatt.comNigerian striker Frank Temile won the three awards he was nominated for in the seventh edition of the Melita Digital Malta Football Awards which was held at the Corinthia Palace Attard on Friday. Temile was voted Best Striker, Most Promising Youngster and Best Foreign Player.

As expected, champions Valletta claimed the largest number of awards. Andrew Hogg was voted Best Goalkeeper, Gilbert Agius was voted Best Local Player and Paul Zammit was voted Best Coach.

The award for the Best Defender went to Birkirkara defender Ronni Hartvig while Marsaxlokk's Kevin Sammut was voted Best Midfielder.

Stefan Sultana won the award for the Best Veteran Player (aged 36 and over) while the goal by Sliema Wanderers striker Ivan Woods in the game against Marsaxlokk on April 26 was voted the Best Goal of the Season.

Joseph Farrugia (Qormi) and Elton Vella (Mosta) were the joint-winners of the Best First Division Player while Melita striker Julian Galea claimed the award for the Best Second Division Player. Nora Agliano of Birkirkara was voted Best Female Player. Errol Grima (Sannat Lions) won the Best Onvol GFA First Division Player award while Predrag Babic (Scandals) wont he award for the Best Futsal First Division Player.

The Coke Zero Best Support Award, sponsored by the General Soft Drinks, went to Hamrun Spartans.

Two special awards for the career were presented to Tony Bezzina and Benny Pace. Tony Bezzina celebrates the thirtieth anniversary as president of Hibernians while Benny Pace has a long journalistic career spanning over forty years besides spending several years as an official with Valletta FC.

A memento was presented to the six Maltese players who are currently playing abroad, namely Michael Mifsud - Coventry, Andre Schembri - Eintracht Braunschweig, Justin Haber - Haidari, Daniel Bogdanovic - Cisco Roma, Luke Dimech - Macclesfield, Andrei Agius - Igea Virtus and Luke Woods - Ware FC.

Balzan Youths midfielder Gilbert Scerri was presented with an award after winning the Crossbar Challenge - a competition which was held during the programme Line Up on E22.
