The II Westin Malta Football Awards 2002/03
Birkirkara defender Lucian Dronca and Sliema Wanderers midfielder Noel Turner claimed two awards each in the second edition of the Westin Malta Football Awards which was held on Saturday July 28 at the Westin Dragonara Resort, St. Julian's.
Dronca won the award for the Best Defender and the Best Foreign Player while Turner, who was earlier voted MFA Footballer of the Year, was voted as the Best Midfielder and the Best Maltese Player.
Michael Galea of Birkirkara, one of three joint-league top-scorers won the award for the Best Striker while Pietà Hotspurs goalie Saviour Darmanin won that for the Best Goalkeeper.
For the second year in succession, a Hamrun Spartans player won the award for the Most Promising Youngster. This time it was the turn of Malta U-21 midfielder Roderick Bajada.
Sliema Wanderers coach Edward Aquilina was voted Best Coach while Johann Zammit's goal against Mosta was voted as the Most Beautiful Goal of the Season.
Charlie Agius and Philip Agius won the award for the Best Referee and Best Assistant Referee respectively.
Special awards were presented to Hamrun Spartans striker Stefan Sultana and former Rabat, Valletta and Malta defender Joe Cilia, who also spent a long career in coaching.
