BOV Division 1: Pietà, Gzira register first wins

bov-first-division-2013-2014Pietà Hotspurs and Gzira United registered their first wins in the BOV First Division.

The Hotspurs bear Msida St. Joseph 3-1. Raphael Alain Kooh Sohna put Pietà ahead one minute from the end of the first half. Daniele De Luca equalised on 56 minutes but Jurgen Pisani made it 2-1 on 72 minutes. Ten minutes later, Raphael Alain Kooh Sohna sealed the issue with the third goal.

In another match, Gzira United defeated Zurrieq 1-0.

BOV Division 1: Fine win for Birzebbuga over Zebbug

bov-first-division-2013-2014Birzebbuga St. Peter’s registered a fine 4-1 win over Zebbug Rangers to collect their first three points in the BOV First Division.

Giancarlo Generoso da Silva put the Saints ahead on 22 minutes with Mauricio Britto equalising five minutes later. Ademola Olawepo Shennowo made it 2-1 for Birzebbuga two minutes in the second half. Felix Peplow increased the lead on 69 minutes and two minutes from time, Gary Caruana sealed the issue with a fourth goal.

Lija Athletic joined Melita on top with maximum points from two matches thanks to a 2-0 win over Zejtun Corinthians. An own goal handed Lija the lead on 15 minutes and Kiril Aleksandrov converted a penalty on 75 minutes to double the score.

BOV Division 1: Second win for Melita

bov-first-division-2013-2014Melita registered their second win in the BOV First Division as they beat Msida St. Joseph 2-1 at the Centenary Stadium on Saturday.

Julian Galea put the Amateurs ahead on the 3rd minute. Lydon Micallef converted a penalty on the 29th to level matters but Luke Micallef notched the winner on the 64th to hand Melita the three points.

In another match, Zurrieq registered a comfortable 3-0 win over Gudja United.

bov-first-division-2013-2014Gzira United and Pietà Hotspurs shared the spoils in a goalless draw in one of the two BOV First Division matches in programme at the Centenary Stadium on Sunday.

In another match, Zebbug Rangers were held in a 2-2 draw by Zurrieq.

BOV Division 1: Spartans stage comeback to hold Zejtun in draw

msida-standrews130914Hamrun Spartans came back from two goals down to hold Zejtun Corinthians in a 2-2 draw in a clash from the BOV First Division.

After a goalless first half, Adrian Carabott put Zejtun ahead in 59 minutes. Aleksandrs Cekuljaevs doubled the score on 73 minutes but a minute later, an own goal by Aldo Shkalla put the Spartans back in contention. Ryan Spiteri notched the equaliser on the 80th.

Msida St. Joseph and St. Andrews shared the spoils in a 2-2 draw. Brian Said put St. Andrews ahead on 22 minutes but Dylan Attard levelled matters on 32 minutes. St. Andrews regained the lead two minutes in added time through Emiliano Lattes but an own goal by Neil Chetcuti enabled Msida to earn a point from the game.

Fixtures for MFA Leagues revealed — Possible change in format for BOV Premier League as from 2014/15

premier-league-super-cupThe Malta Football Association published the fixtures for the BOV National Leagues, Youth Leagues and BOV Women’s Leagues.

The BOV Premier League will kick-off on Saturday 17th August at 18:30 with Rabat Ajax vs Birkirkara at the National Stadium. The game wil be followed by Vittoriosa Stars vs Balzan at 20:30. On Sunday 18th August, Naxxar Lions take on Floriana and Sliema Wanderers face Qormi at the Centenary Stadium kick-off at 18:30 and 20:45 while Valletta face Mosta and Tarxien Rainbows take on Hibernians at the National Stadium, kick-off at 18:30 and 20:30.

Addressing a press conference on Monday, MFA Chief Executive Officer Bjorn Vassallo said that this was an important season for the association considering that it will come to an end with the UEFA Under-17 Championships which will be held in Malta between the 9th and 21st May.
