bov-first-division-2013-2014Lija Athletic returned to winning ways as a brace by Kiril Aleksandrov gave them a 2-0 win over Birzebbuga St. Peter’s in a match from the BOV First Division on Sunday.

Lija are currently third, four points behind leaders Zebbug Rangers and two behind Pietà Hotspurs.

In another match, Hamrun Spartans and Zejtun Corinthians shared the spoils in a 1-1 draw.

BOV Division 1: Pietà Hotspurs return to victory

bov-first-division-2013-2014After eliminating holders Hibernians from the U*BET FA Trophy, Pietà Hotspurs bounced back from the two league defeats with a 3-2 win over Gzira United in this weekend’s big match from the BOV First Division.

Jonathan Bilbao Zarate put the Hotspurs ahead on 16 minutes and Raphael Alain Kooh Sohna doubled the score three minutes later. Andrew Spiteri made it 3-0 on 24 minutes. Nine minutes later, Christian Cassar pulled one back for the Maroons. Fifteen minutes from time, Shaun Vella scored a second goal for Ivan Zammit’s side.

Leaders Zebbug Rangers claimed another three points in a 2-1 win over Zurrieq. Alan Tabone and Mauricio Rodrigues Britto gave the Rangers a two-goal lead with Osi Lucky Agboebina reducing the gap for Zurrieq.

BOV Division 1: Zebbug retain top spot as Hotspurs suffer second defeat

bov-first-division-2013-2014Pietà Hotspurs suffered the second defeat in a week to miss the opportunity to regain the top spot in the BOV First Division. Zebbug Rangers therefore stay at the top with 26 points, two ahead of Pietà and four ahead of Lija.

Jurgen Pisani put the Hotspurs ahead on 32 minutes but Ryan Dalli levelled matters two minutes. Anthony Ewurum made it 2-1 for Gudja on 55 minutes.

Melita returned to winning ways as they beat Gzira United 3-2.

BOV Division 1: Hamrun return to winning ways

bov-first-division-2013-2014Hamrun Spartans returned to winning ways as a penalty by Mariano Cornago San Pedro enabled them to beat promotion challengers Lija Athletic 1-0 in one of the two BOV First Division matches in programme on Saturday.

The Spartans still lie at the bottom of the table but are now on the two-point mark.

In another match, Zurrieq held Birzebbuga St. Peter’s in a 1-1 draw.
