BOV-First-DivisionSt. Andrews were the second team to win promotion from the BOV First Division to the Premier League as they defeated Zurrieq 2-0. A win which puts them, once again, on level points with Pembroke Athleta who made sure of promotion on Saturday following Fgura United’s defeat to St. George’s.

Matteo Desira Buttigieg put Luxol ahead on the 36th minute and they doubled the score thanks to an own goal on the 71st.

Meanwhile Melita moved third thanks to a 2-1 win in a direct clash with Vittoriosa Stars. Melita move one point ahead of Fgura and St. George’s, two ahead of Gzira and three ahead of Gudja and Vittoriosa.

BOV-First-DivisionPembroke Athleta were the first team to secure promotion to the Premier League as third-placed Fgura United suffered a second defeat in three matches, losing narrowly to St. George’s. This is a historic promotion for the club who joins the elite of local football for the first time in its short history.

A goal by Noah Olawole Ojuola three minutes from the end of the first half enabled St. George’s to beat Fgura 1-0 and join them in third place, one point ahead of Gzira and two ahead of Gudja, Vittoriosa and Melita.

After suffering nine consecutive defeats, Msida St. Joseph earned a point in a goalless draw with Rabat Ajax but this was not enough to avoid relegation to Division 2 as they stay eight points behind the Magpies with two games to go.

BOV-First-DivisionPembroke Athleta moved to just one point away from securing a historic promotion to the Premier League as they defeated Gudja United 1-0 in a match from the BOV First Division on Friday.

With two matches to go, Jacques Scerri’s side move three points clear of St. Andrews, who however have a game in hand. Fgura United are currently third, nine points behind Pembroke.

Abubakar Bello-Osagie scored the all-important goal eight minutes in the second half.

BOV-First-DivisionSt. George’s defeated Melita 2-1 on Tuesday to join the race the third place in the BOV First Division and a place in the promotion play-off against the team placing tenth in the BOV Premier League.

A win for the Amateurs would have put them alone in third place but this defeat leaves them joint-fifth, two points behind third-placed Fgura United and one ahead of St. George’s. With three games to go, three points separate six teams in the battle for third place.

Alexander Eby put Melita ahead on 25 minutes but a brace by Bruno Chikwado Mbonu on 73 and 76 minutes gave Patrick Curmi’s side the three points.

BOV-First-DivisionGzira United moved to just one point behind third-placed Fgura United as they returned to winning ways, beating neighbours Msida St. Joseph 6-1. For Msida, this was the ninth consecutive defeat.

Yanis Tonna put Gzira ahead on the 10th but Stacey Vella levelled matters six minutes later. Gzira regained the lead thanks to a penalty by Moises Avila Perez on the 35th and another penalty, this time by Ryan Dalli, eleven minutes in the second half put them 3-1 ahead. Yanis Tonna increased the lead on 77 minutes with John Nwoba scored a fifth goal on the 87th and Matteo Caribotti and sixth one minute from time.
