bov-first-division-2013-2014After collecting just one point from the last two matches, Zebbug Rangers returned to winning ways as they defeated Gzira United 1-0 in one of two matches from the BOV First Division in programme on Sunday.

The Rangers move three points behind leaders Pietà Hotspurs and six ahead of third-placed Lija Athletic.

In another match, Zurrieq claimed three important points in a direct clash between teams fighting to avoid relegation as they defeated Msida St. Joseph 3-1.

Raphael Alain Kooh Sohna was the hero for Pietà with four goals with Jurgen Pisani, Kyle Cesare and Ricardo Costa scoring the other three goals.

St. Andrews moved fifth after beating Melita 2-1 in the derby – the fourth win in five matches for Danilo Doncic’s side.

bov-first-division-2013-2014Zebbug Rangers failed to keep the pace with leaders Pietà Hotspurs as they suffered a shock 0-3 defeat to Gudja United in one of the four BOV First Division matches in programme on Sunday.

Mauro Brincat, Matthew Groves and Ryan Dalli scored the goals for Gudja. Zebbug had two players sent off and Gudja one.

After collecting just two points from the last three matches, Melita returned to winning ways as they beat Zejtun Corinthians 4-1.

bov-first-division-2013-2014St. Andrews came back from behind to beat Lija Athletic 5-2 in one of the two BOV First Division matches in programme on Saturday. Kiril Aleksandrov and Marko Potezica put Lija two goals ahead before a hat-trick by substitute Trayo Grozev and goals by Kyrian Nwoko and Luke Busuttil gave St. Andrews the three points.

This was the third win in four matches for Danilo Doncic’s side. On the other hand, Lija missed the opportunity to keep the pace with the top two teams.

In another match, Pietà Hotspurs moved three points clear as they beat neighbours Hamrun Spartans 3-1.

bov-first-division-2013-2014Zebbug Rangers now share the top spot with Pietà Hotspurs in the BOV First Division after being held in a 3-3 draw by Lija Athletic in one of the four matches in programme on Sunday.

Beppe Antignolo gave Lija an early lead, Ratko Mandic levelled matters but Ige Abullahi Adeshina made it 2-1 for Lija. In the second half, Anderson Mendes Ribeiro scored twice to turn the score in Zebbug’s favour but Kiril Aleksandrov notched a late equaliser for Lija who stay four points behind the leaders.

St. Andrews returned to winning ways thanks to a most comfortable 8-2 win over Zejtun Corinthians. Trayo Grozev was the hero for Danilo Doncic’s side with five goals with Emiliano Lattes scoring two and Kai Risholt adding another. Adrian Carabott and Aleksandars Cekulajevs scored Zejtun’s goals.
