BOV Division 1: Spartans stage comeback to hold Zejtun in draw

msida-standrews130914Hamrun Spartans came back from two goals down to hold Zejtun Corinthians in a 2-2 draw in a clash from the BOV First Division.

After a goalless first half, Adrian Carabott put Zejtun ahead in 59 minutes. Aleksandrs Cekuljaevs doubled the score on 73 minutes but a minute later, an own goal by Aldo Shkalla put the Spartans back in contention. Ryan Spiteri notched the equaliser on the 80th.

Msida St. Joseph and St. Andrews shared the spoils in a 2-2 draw. Brian Said put St. Andrews ahead on 22 minutes but Dylan Attard levelled matters on 32 minutes. St. Andrews regained the lead two minutes in added time through Emiliano Lattes but an own goal by Neil Chetcuti enabled Msida to earn a point from the game.

Fixtures for MFA Leagues revealed — Possible change in format for BOV Premier League as from 2014/15

premier-league-super-cupThe Malta Football Association published the fixtures for the BOV National Leagues, Youth Leagues and BOV Women’s Leagues.

The BOV Premier League will kick-off on Saturday 17th August at 18:30 with Rabat Ajax vs Birkirkara at the National Stadium. The game wil be followed by Vittoriosa Stars vs Balzan at 20:30. On Sunday 18th August, Naxxar Lions take on Floriana and Sliema Wanderers face Qormi at the Centenary Stadium kick-off at 18:30 and 20:45 while Valletta face Mosta and Tarxien Rainbows take on Hibernians at the National Stadium, kick-off at 18:30 and 20:30.

Addressing a press conference on Monday, MFA Chief Executive Officer Bjorn Vassallo said that this was an important season for the association considering that it will come to an end with the UEFA Under-17 Championships which will be held in Malta between the 9th and 21st May.

BOV League Fixtures drawn: Ħamrun Spartans face Żejtun Corinthians in first match

BOV-Draws-First-to-Third2013The fixtures for BOV First Division, BOV Second Division, BOV Third Division and BOV Women’s First Division leagues 2013/14 were held at the Grand Hotel Excelsior on Saturday by MFA Chief Executive Officer Bjorn Vassallo and BOV Chief Officer Michael Galea.

Bjorn Vassallo said that the association was fully prepared for another exciting football season following a perfect finale last season the BOV Premier League champion was determined with a decider. He also congratulated the champions in the various divisions.

The cherry on the cake for the football season was Malta’s win over Armenia in Yerevan. A win which meant a lot considering the negative perception which surrounded the local game.

BOV Division 1: Naxxar Lions champions

Naxxar-Lions-First-Champions2013Naxxar Lions were declared champions in the BOV First Division after defeating Vittoriosa Stars 2-1 in a championship decider.

The two teams ended their commitments on level points and therefore a decider was necessary to determine the champions.

Following a goalless first half, Lydon Micallef put Vittoriosa ahead. However Daren Falzon levelled matters for Naxxar and Anthony Ewurum turned the score in their favour.

BOV First Division Championship Decider to be played on Saturday

MFAThe Malta Football Association announced that the BOV First Division Championship Decider between Vittoriosa Stars and Naxxar Lions shall be played on Saturday 4th May 2013 at the Victor Tedesco Stadium, kick-off at 17:00.

Last Saturday, Naxxar Lions beat Lija Athletic 2-0 while Vittoriosa Stars lost 1-4 to Pietà Hotspurs. Therefore both teams ended their commitments on 44 points.
