BOV Division 2: Gzira celebrate championship, Gudja promoted

Gzira United celebrated the BOV Second Division championship and promotion to Division 1 with a 2-0 win over Attard. This result also condemned the latter to playing in Division 3.

Gudja United secured promotion to Division 1 after defeating Zurrieq 1-0. Mellieha’s 2-0 win over Zebbug Rangers was therefore not enough.

Pembroke Athleta were declared BOV Third Division champions after defeating Marsaskala at the Centenary Stadium on Saturday.

Runners-up Fgura United also ended their commitments with a win, beating Santa Lucia 4-3 while Mgarr United, who were the third team to secure promotion to Division 2, defeated Qrendi 6-1.

Kirkop United ended their commitments in the BOV Second Division with a 5-1 win over St. Venera Lightnings.

Therefore Kirkop, who won promotion from Division 3 last season, ended their commitments in seventh place, two points ahead of the Lightnings.

Meanwhile in the BOV Third Division, Sirens and Swieqi United shared the spoils in a goalless draw while Mtarfa were held in a 2-2 draw by Kalkara.

The championship for the BOV First Division and the BOV Third Division are among the issues to be solved this weekend as the final matches from the BOV First Division, BOV Second Division and the BOV Third Division are played between Friday and Monday.

In the BOV First Division, Rabat Ajax and Melita are sure of playing in the top division next season but the direct clash between the two at the Victor Tedesco Stadium on Saturday, kick-off at 15:00, will decide which team will be promoted as champion. The Magpies enjoy a one-point lead and therefore a draw would be enough to secure the title. Melita, on the other hand, have to win.

MFA announces changes in fixtures for final league games

The Malta Football Association announced changes in fixtures for the final league games in the BOV Premier League, First, Second and Third Division.

The only issue which remains to be settled in the BOV Premier League is relegation.

In the BOV First Division, St. Patrick, Dingli Swallows and St. George’s are still involved in the battle against relegation.

Gudja United and Mellieha are still fighting for promotion from the BOV Second Division while Attard and Siggiewi are fighting against relegation.

In the BOV Third Division, Pembroke Athleta and Fgura United are engaged in a battle for the championship.
