Mtarfa FC win Strickland Cup

Mtarfa FC won the third edition of the Roger Strickland Cup after defeating Ta’ Xbiex SC 1-0 in the final at the Centenary Stadium on Saturday. This was the third success for Mtarfa in three editions.

Omar Smeir scored the all-important goal on the 40th minute.

After the final, Mtarfa were presented with the cup by MFA Senior Vice-President Carmelo Bartolo.

Mtarfa, Ta’ Xbiex to contest Strickland Cup final

Mtarfa and Ta’ Xbiex will be contesting the final of the Roger Strickland Cup on Saturday after defeating Swieqi United and Xghajra Tornados respectively in the two semi-finals on Thursday.

In the first semi-final, Ta’ Xbiex managed to beat Xghajra Tornados 4-1 on penalties following a 2-2 draw while Mtarfa beat Swieqi 1-0 in the other semi-final.

Third edition of Strickland Cup launched

Four clubs from the BOV Third Division will be taking part in the third edition of the Strickland Cup which will be played on Thursday 17th January and Saturday 19th January at the Centenary Stadium.

Swieqi United, Mtarfa, Ta’ Xbiex SC and Xghajra Tornados will be taking part in the quadrangular tournament with the semi-finals scheduled for Thursday 17 and the finals for Saturday 19.

In the first semi-final, Ta’ Xbiex face Xghajra, kick-off at 18:00, followed by the second semi-final between Swieqi United and Mtarfa, starting at 20:00.

Valletta claim Gozo Cup

Valletta claimed the Gozo Cup after defeating hosts Gozo on penalties in the final on Sunday.

Kalin Ganchev put the Gozitan selection ahead on 9 minutes but two minutes later Jason Vandelannoite levelled matters and Demba Toure put the Citizens ahead six minutes from the end of the first half. Milos Stojanovic restored equilibrium nine minutes in the second half.

Gozo, Valletta to contest Gozo Cup final

Gozo StadiumThe selection from the Gozo Football Association and Premier League side Valletta FC earned a place in the final of the third edition of the Gozo Cup after defeating Cilento of Italy and Mosta FC respectively in the two semi-finals which were played on Friday.

Gozo XI registered a deserved win over Cilento of Italy in the first semi-final with the only goal being scored mid-way through the second half.
