0  Marsaxlokk move second

Marsaxlokk moved second, one point ahead of Birkirkara, as they defeated Hamrun Spartans by the odd goal in seven.

Hamrun took the lead on 13 minutes when off a cross from the right by Kevin Borg, Steve Meilak headed home past goalkeeper Reuben Debono.

The Southseasiders equalised on 25 minutes when Aleksandar Madzar served Kevin Sammut inside the area and the latter hit low past goalkeeper Sean Sullivan.

On 35 minutes, Marsaxlokk took the lead thanks to a goal by Julio Alcorse who beat Sullivan with a first-time shot off a cross from the right.

Marsaxlokk sealed the issue with a third goal on 63 minutes with Kevin Sammut concluding a good move by serving the unmarked Julio Alcorse on teh left and the latter hit home from close range.

On 76 minutes, Malcolm Licari released Aleksandar Madzar on the right and the striker from Montenegro advanced into the area, slotting the ball past Sullivan to make it 4-1.

Hamrun were awarded a penalty on 86 minutes after Shawn Tellus brought Alfred Effiong down inside the area. From the penalty spot, Stefan SUltana made no mistake.

One minute from time, Hamrun scored a third goal with Branislav Timotic hitting hard past Reuben Debono when served by Roderick Fenech on the left.

Kevin Sammut was voted BOV Player of the Match.

Meanwhile in the first match, ten-man Hibernians defeated Pietà Hotspurs 2-1.

Hibernians took the lead after just five minutes when Ndubisi Chukunyere served Pablo Doffo inside the area and the Argentinean midfielder hit low past Pietà goalkeeper Miguel Montfort.

The Hotspurs levelled matters on 25 minutes when young striker Francesco Sulas received a good pass on the right and with a low shot he managed to beat Hibs goalie Daniel Balzan.

Just before half-time, Hibs were reduced to ten men as referee Andre Arciola sent off Ndubisi Chukunyere.

Two minutes in added time, the Paolites notched the winner with Terence Scerri beating Montfort from close range following an assist by Pablo Doffo.

Pablo Doffo was voted BOV Player of the Match.
