Pietà Hotspurs came from behind to beat St. George's 3-2 and reach the second round of the U*BET FA Trophy.

The Saints seemed heading towards a surprise win after taking a two-goal lead but the Hotspurs levelled matters with two goals by the end of the first half, forging ahead after the break.

The Hotspurs had the first attempt at goal with Galabov releasing Kondev whose cute lob ended over the bar.

On the 13th minutes, St. George's took the lead thanks to a great freekick by Silvio Sciberras which beat goalkeeper Mark Vella. A minute later, the Saints doubled the score with a fine rising shot by Vince Camilleri from outside the area.

St. George's went close once again on 16 minutes with a good move by Peter Anizoba on the left from which Vince Camilleri and Emerson Amaira had shots blocked by defenders.

Pietà replied with a Quilin Refalo effort on 26 minutes which was blocked into a corner by James Mercieca. Five minutes later, the Saints goalkeeper neutralised a low shot by Kondev but on 35 minutes, Anizoba served Christian Grech whose attempt was turned into a corner by Mark Vella.

The Hotspurs pulled one back on 37 minutes when off a cross by Melchior Vella from the right, Quilin Refalo headed home.

A cross shot by Svetlan Kondev was turned into a corner by Mercieca on 39 minutes but a minute later, Pietà levelled matters when Ryan Camilleri served Peicho Deliminkov inside the area and the Bulgarian defender headed the ball over Mercieca.

Just before the end of the first half, St. George's went close to regaining the lead with a diagonal shot from the right by Anizoba which ended just wide.

Early in the second half, the Cospicua went close with a rising shot by Anizoba which was turned into a corner by Vella and a couple of minutes later, another good attempt by Anizoba was partially saved by Mark Vella.

However on 56 minutes, Pietà managed to take the lead when off a cross from the right by Pierre Aquilina, Mercieca failed to hold the ball and Quilin Refalo hit home.

The Hotspurs now held the initiative, going close once again with a Martin Deanov freekick which was blocked by Mercieca on 62 minutes. On 78 minutes, a Daniel Gatt effort, off a cross by Refalo, was saved by the Cospicua goalie.

Valletta reached the second round of the U*BET FA Trophy thanks to a comfortable 4-0 win over First Division side St. Patrick.

Despite the absence of a number of players, including Steve Bezzina, Claude Mattocks, Gilbert Agius and Dyson Falzon, the Citizens found no difficulty in beating St. Patrick, who are anchored at the bottom of Division 1.

Valletta held the initiative right from the start, going close on the 3rd minute with a shot from the edge of the area by Sebastian Monesterolo which scraped past the post. Three minutes later, St. Patrick goalkeeper David Cassar neutralised a freekick by Stefan Giglio. On 21 minutes, Cassar turned into a corner a freekick by Ian Zammit.

Valletta took the lead on 29 minutes when off a cross by Bryan Agius from the left, St. Patrick defender Brandon Bonnici flicked the ball past goalkeeper David Cassar for an own goal.

Ian Zammit, served by Frank Temile, had a fine shot deflected into a corner on 31 minutes. Nine minutes later, a shot by Monesterolo from the right was blocked by a defender aided by the upright.

The Citizens doubled the score on 45 minutes when a shot by Frank Temile was blocked by the goalkeeper but the ball still hit the Nigerian striker to end at the back of the net.

Six minutes in the second half, St. Patrick went close to reducing the gap with a Robert Cassar freekick which ended just wide. Valletta replied with a cross shot by Keith Fenech which was saved by David Cassar on 69 minutes.

On 71 minutes, Valletta made it 3-0 when off a cross from the right by Ian Zammit, Stefan Giglio headed home.

Substitute Kurt Magro could have increased the lead further three minutes later but his fine lob ended just over the bar. On 83 minutes, Stefan Giglio's low effort hit the upright with Mark Pullicino clearing the ball into safety.

Two minutes from time, Valletta were awarded a penalty for a foul by David Cassar on Kurt Magro. From the penalty spot, Frank Temile converted.
