| Hamrun Spartans reached the quarter-finals of the U*BET FA Trophy thanks to a narrow 1-0 win over neighbours Pietà Hotspurs.
The Spartans lacked Michael Falzon, Aaron Attard, Mark Anthony Bonnici and Evano Briffa with Gaetan Spiteri and Stefan Sultana starting on the bench. Pietà, on the other hand, lacked Pierre Aquilina, Silvan Ciscaldi and Dylan Kokavessis. Hamrun had the first shot at goal with Ryan Fenech testing Miguel Montfort with a cross shot from the right which was turned into a corner by the Pietà custodian on the 10th minute. The Hotspurs replied with a short freekick by Svetlan Kondev for Rumen Galabov whose shot was deflected into a corner by a defender on 29 minutes. Two minutes later, Quilin Refalo released Martin Deanov who concluded a good run with a low shot which was deflected into a corner by Sullivan. The Spartans took the lead on 36 minutes thanks to a goal by Stephen Meilak whose shot from the edge of the area saw the ball hit the crossbar before ending at the back of the net. Quelin Refalo received a good pass inside the area but his fine shot neutralised by Sullivan on the 39th and one minute from half-time, a goal-bound header by Alfred Effiong was cleared off the gaol-line by Herrera. Five minutes in the second half, a perfect pass by Svetlan Kondev found Martin Deanov all alone in front of Sullivan but the Hamrun custodian performed a fine save. On 69 minutes, Kevin Borg went close with a rising shot which ended just over the bar following a deflection by a defender. Substitute Diego Cucciardi missed the target from close range following a good cross by Alfred Effiong from the right on the 83rd minute and finally two minutes later, Miguel Montfort managed to block a great header by Cucciardi off a Stephen Meilak cross from the left. | |

| Valletta beat Tarxien Rainbows 5-0 in a clash between the leaders of the BOV Premier League and the leaders of the BOV First Division.
Valletta coach Paul Zammit made some changes, leaving Andrew Hogg, Justin Grioli, Steve Bezzina and Frank Temile out of the starting line-up. As expected, the Citizens held the initiative right from the start. Tarxien goalkeeper Anthony Curmi performed saves on shots by Ian Zammit and Stefan Giglio in the first eight minutes. Then off a Dyson Falzon corner, Ian Zammit tested the Tarxien goalie with a good header on the 16th. Valletta took the lead on the 19th when off a fine pass by Jonathan Bondin, Sebastian Monesterolo's rising shot ended in the top left corner. The Rainbows replied with a low shot by Simon Shead which was saved by Darmanin two minutes later. On 31 minutes, Valletta went close once again with a shot by Gilbert Agius from outside the area which ended just wide. Three minutes from the end of the first half, John Paul Muscat went close for Tarxien but Saviour Darmanin managed to save and a minute later, Backhaus and Giglio failed to connect from close range following a cross by Dyson Falzon from the right. The Citizens doubled the score four minutes in the second half when Ian Zammit advanced on the right and off the latter's cross, Dyson Falzon hit home. On the hour, Angus Buhagiar had a good shot for Tarxien ending just over the bar. Sebastian Monesterolo made it 3-0 on 65 minutes when he beat goalkeeper Anthony Curmi from close range following a cross by Bryan Agius from the left. On 72 minutes, Valletta scored the fourth goal with Ian Zammit heading home from close range following a cross by Dyson Falzon from the right. Nine minutes from time, Ian Zammit beat Curmi with a diagonal shot from the right to score the fifth goal for Valletta. | |
