First Division side Dingli Swallows secured a place in the quarter-finals of the U*BET FA Trophy after beating Premier League wooden-spoonists Mqabba 1-0.

After a quiet start for the two sides, Dingli went close with a shot from outside the area by Kurt Formosa which almost surprised goalkeeper Kris Calleja on 32 minutes. A minute later, Jeremy Agius served Uchenna Anyanwu who tried his luck with a low shot from outside the area which ended just wide.

Dingli took the lead three minutes from the end of the first half when Uchenna Anyanwu released Chris Ciappara on the left and the latter hit low past Kris Calleja.

Five minutes in the second half, off a cross by John Mintoff from the left, Marcelo Pereira had a shot from close range neutralised by goalkeeper Jeffrey Farrugia.

One minute from time, Marcelo Pereira had the last opportunity to level matters but his conclusion ended wide.

Floriana needed extra-time to beat Senglea Athletic 3-2 and reach the next stage of the U*BET FA Trophy after having two players sent off.

The Greens had the first shot at goal with Darko Krsteski testing George Attard with a freekick which was saved by George Attard. Six minutes later, Floriana goalie Simon Agius performed a great save on a fine shot by Erin Azzopardi.

Five minutes from the end of the first half, Senglea managed to take the lead when Mark Tanti served Anthony Ewurum on the left and the Nigerian striker beat Simon Agius with a great volley.

Three minutes later, the Greens were reduced to ten men as Darko Krsteski received marching orders after hitting Anthony Ewurum.

Floriana levelled matters on 67 minutes when off a good move by Yala Bolasie, Ryan Darmanin served Christian Caruana who managed to beat George Attard with a shot from the edge of the area.

Senglea goalie George Attard performed a good save on a header by Manolito Micallef on 76 minutes, turning the ball into a corner.

Ten minutes from time, Floriana had goalkeeper Simon Agius sent off for handlng the ball outside the area in an attack for Senglea. Floriana coach Danilo Doncic replaced Christian Caruana with substitute goalkeeper Jurgen Micallef.

On the 82nd minute, Senglea made it 2-1 thanks to a Mark Tanti direct freekick which beat Micallef.

Floriana replied with a Christian Cassar freekick neutralised by George Attard a minute later and one minute from time, another freekick by Christian Cassar ended just wide.

Seven minutes in the first half of extra-time, the Greens were awarded a freekick just outside the area following a foul on Manolito Micallef. The freekick by Mauro Brincat was partially saved by George Attard.

On 98 minutes, Senglea also had a player sent off when Kevin Mifsud was given marching orders by referee Paul Caruana.

Eleven minutes in the second half of extra-time, Floriana made it 3-2 with Christian Cassar beating George Attard with a direct freekick.
