Floriana came from behind to beat Sliema Wanderers 2-1 and reach the semi-finals of the U*BET FA Trophy. This result means that the Greens could still challenge for a place in the UEFA Cup but the only way Sliema could now secure a place in Europe is through a second or third place in the BOV Premier League.

Both sides welcomed back a number of players with Murphy Akanji, Brian Said, Roderick Briffa, roderick Bajada, Etienne Barbara, all included in the Sliema starting line-up with Barbara making his return after missing the last three matches due to a suspension inflicted by the club. Christian Caruana was included in the Greens' starting line-up with Manolito Micallef being included as a substitute. Goalkeeper Simon Agius and Darko Krsteski were unavailable for Floriana as they serve a one-match ban.

Sliema were clearly a better side during the first half going close to taking the lead after just two minutes when off a Roderick Bajada freekick, Brain Said's header was blocked on the goal-line by goalkeeper Jurgen Micallef with the Sliema players claiming that the ball had crossed the goal-line.

Roderick Bajada tested Micallef with a long-distance freekick on the 20th and eight minutes later, another Bajada freekick ended wide. A shot from outside the area by Etienne Barbara missed the target on 32 minutes and four minutes later, a long-distance freekick by the same player was neutralised by the Floriana custodian. Seven minutes from the end of the first half, another freekick by Barbara from the left was deflected by Joseph Borg into a corner.

Sliema managed to break the deadlock six minutes in the second half, when Ivan Woods released Etienne Barbara whose powerful shot from the left was only partially saved by goalkeeper Jurgen Micallef.

Floriana levelled matters on 61 minutes when Ryan Darmanin took advantage of some misunderstanding between Branko Nisevic and Murphy Akanji and placed the ball at the back of the net.

Four minutes later, the Greens made it 2-1 when a cross shot from the left by Christian Caruana was not held by Akanji and off the rebound, substitute Manolito Micallef hit home from close range.

Sliema replied with a rising shot from the right by Etienne Barbara which ended high on 73 minutes. However the Blues were reduced to ten men on 78 minutes when Jeffrey Chetcuti was given marching orders by referee Adrian Casha after hitting Christian Caruana. This incident meant that it was over for the Wanderers and the Greens cruise to the semi-finals.

Birkirkara turned defeat into victory as they beat Marsaxlokk 2-1 to qualify for the next round of the U*BET FA Trophy.

Marsaxlokk took just one minute to forge ahead when off a Cleavon Frendo freekick from the left, Carlo Mamo had a first attempt blocked by Omar Borg but off the rebound, the same player placed the ball at the back of the net.

Birkirkara replied with an Amed Davy Sylla effort which was blocked by Reuben Debono on 7 minutes. Mifsud Triganza took the rebound, serving Alan Tabone on the right low shot turned into a corner by Marsaxlokk custodian.

On 18 minutes, Cleavon Frendo concluded a good run on the right flank by entering the area and unleashing a powerful shot which hit the upright. On the other side of the pitch, Reuben Debono performed a great save on a fine Alan Tabone freekick on 34 minutes. In stoppage-time, there was no one to conclude off an inviting corner by Shaun Bajada from the right but seconds later, off another corner by Bajada, consecutive shots by Ronni Hartvig were blocked by Debono, the second one into a corner.

Birkirkara levelled matters seven minutes in the second half when Amed Davy Sylla concluded a good move on the right by dribbling two players and beating Debono with a fine rising shot.

On the 70th minute, the Stripes went 2-1 ahead when Jean Pierre Mifsud Triganza received a good pass by Shaun Bajada outside the area and with a low drive, he managed to beat the Marsaxlokk goalie.

A diagonal shot by Amed Davy Sylla from the right ended just wide six minutes later. Finally, eight minutes from time, Jean Pierre Mifsud Triganza had an excellent opportunity to seal the issue but when alone in front of Reuben Debono, his low shot was blocked by the Marsaxlokk goalkeeper.
