Senglea Nursery End of Season Presentation

Senglea Nursery organized its annual End of Season Presentation for the season 2008/2009 on Wednesday 26th August, in front of Senglea Nursery’s club.
Present for this occasion were all Senglea Nursery players, the participants in the Summer Activities programme, relatives and friends. Present were also various distinguished guests including YFA President Fr. Hilary Tagliaferro, Senglea Mayor Mr. Casha, Senglea Archpriest Rev. Grech and the presidents and secretaries of all Senglea societies. A large crowd also gathered around the venue to watch the show.
In his speech, Senglea Nursery President Mr. Stephen Spiteri mentioned the role that the Senglea Nursery has in the community. Senglea Nursery’s aim is to gather all Senglea children and youngsters together in order to enjoy themselves, in a safe and protected environmrny. For this reason, many activities organized by this nursery are open to all those wishing to participate and not only for those within the nursery. The most important happening in this regards is in Summer, when Senglea Nursery organises a six-week Summer Activities programme with indoor, outdoor and swimming competitions. All these activities are open to all those wishing to participate and are free of charge. Apart from the competitive games, these youngsters had the opportunity to train themselves in the tradional bocci game and regatta, rowing sports, besides learning band instruments.
Mr. Spiteri proudly mentioned the over 70 participants who took part in these Summer Activities, activities which are being organised for the second consecutive year and which last year were rewarded by the YFA and UEFA.
He thanked last season’s players for their enthusiasm and dedication, which helped to obtain positive results and is hoping to obtain and improve them this season too.
Mr. Spiteri mentioned Senglea’s new women’s team, a team which has been training all throughout Summer in order to be competitive in this coming season.
He also mentioned his plans for a Waterpolo team to come into being. This project will take flight as soon as all the necessary permits are ready.
Sadly, Mr. Spiteri remembered Dylan Bugeja, an Under 17 player who died at such a tender age and that left such sorrow within the nursery, a Senglea Nursery player who will never be forgotten.
Fr. Hilary’s speech was one of praise for a nursery who is working so much for Senglea’s young community. He said he admired the professionalism of this nursery and for its collaboration with various other entities, including the church and the local council, in order to come up with the best results for these youths.
The distinguished guests, following their speech, awarded all Senglea Nursery’s players and all the participants in the Summer Activities.
Fr. Hilary Tagliaferro, presented a trophy, given by Senglea Nursery, to Dylan Bugeja’s parents as a sign of respect, due to the fact that even Dylan formed part of this nursery last season. Dylan’s parents were greeted by a heartbreaking applause.
Following the Presentation, the evening continued with food and refreshment for all the guests at Senglea Nursery’s Club and with a show by various famous Maltese singers who entertained the guests.
