Luxol Under-11 take part in Welsh Super Cup

During the last week of July, Luxol St. Andrew’s U-11 team participated in the Welsh Super Cup in Aberystwyth, Wales. The event was very well organized, with over 1200 players competing, from various European countries. A friendly atmosphere was felt throughout the whole event, were values of sportsmanship and mutual respect were also evident, both on the field of play, and also at the University residences, where all the respective teams were based.
The Luxol team played a total of seven games and managed to achieve a very encouraging end result. The first phase was a round-robin stage comprising of two groups. Luxol’s group stage was a very balanced affair, with only 1 or 2 goals separating all teams in all matches. Luxol’s boys won four out of five matches, placing second in their group, and thus qualifying with the top four for the semi-finals of the Super Cup.
In the end they managed to secure the 4th place overall, out of a total 14 teams, only after suffering a last gasp goal at the hands of Wrexham’s selection in the semi-final. All Luxol’s players performance and commitment was praised by many opposing team officials, including the referees, and there were also a handful of top notch academy scouts taking a close look at the players.
