Pembroke Athleta present new coach, new signings

During a press conference held by the Pembroke Athleta Football Club on Friday at the club premises in Pembroke, the club’s newly appointed coach Charles Borg (UEFA ‘B’ licence) was introduced together with the club’s newly acquired eight players for the season 2009/2010.
The club’s sponsor, Eurosport have kindly accepted to extend their sponsorship for another season and the club’s new kits were presented during the press conference by Fabian Catania from Eurosport.
The presentation of awards to players was also included in this event. The club’s committee expressed its confidence that this year’s target of gaining promotion to Division 2 will be achieved.
Charles Borg explained that his connection with the youth sector of Juventus will be instrumental in helping the club’s nursery to benefit from possible technical exchange programmes for both players and coaches. A goalkeepers’ school is also being introduced this year to be run by a qualified goalkeepers’ coach which will also be open to outsiders.
The committee was also pleased to announce that the inauguration of the football ground’s new turf installation will be held in January 2010. If all things go as planned, it will be UEFA president Michel Platini who will honour the club with his presence and officially inaugurate the football ground, together with Prime Minister Dr. Lawrence Gonzi and MFA president Dr. Joe Mifsud in the presence of many other distinguished guests.
It is also anticipated that the construction of further artificial turf pitches and other amenities will be completed within twelve months thanks to the Pembroke Athleta Sports Club, the Malta Tourism Authority and the Kunsill Malti ghall-Isport, as part of the master plan for the area.
